I don't see how it can be the shop since it is all driven by your card and the data held by the till, which is presumably, updated centrally. So it is more likely to be your card which has become unreadable to the machine. I know I find it more difficult to read now but then I am over 50. Perhaps it has got damaged, I've had one that went through the washing machine.

It's usually dozy young girl assistants who miss the coupons with extra points. I always check that they have been added.

They have my credit card details on usually - Im still green, as the shredder stuff goes into my composter anyway.

Blow me, you add a simple message in the hope of helping people and yet ....................
So sorry to upset you - I thought it a bit of a waste of effort shredding the receipts because your credit card details should not be on them - only the last four digits.

But it wouldnt take a lot of brain to put together receipt information (not all of them use the last four digits) plus other stuff from your bin and bingo.

I'm with you, Hethmar. Anything carrying information goes through the shredder.
    Better safe than sorry.

When my son lived in a flat in an inner city area, he was regularly woken by low lifes going through the bins of the flats. He rang the police several times but they always turned up after the people had gone. He went down once after he had shouted out the window at them and they cleared off and left a paper trail to where their car was parked. He walked along picking up envelopes with names on, even a bank statement, ripped up but left in the rubbish with an account number and several receipts from shops and credit cards, even a small shopping catalogue containing info re the person it was sent to. He is now ultra cautious and shreds anything with any tiny bit of info on that could be put together to use for identity theft.

Even shredded stuff can be pieced together! Thats why mine all goes in the compost.

Well, new card arrived with new 10% voucher and down I go to small local Boots. Tell them the story, they put in card and scan voucher - "fine, its registered" Great, I buy something, they take my card and guess what - still not giving me the 10% discount :( I get them to ring the customer service dept as I am standing there and after a lot of faffing they tell me again, its registered now. WELL, I shall certainly be checking from now on AND I still want my 10% discount on stuff Ive bought since March :(
  • hethmar - you've made my day, I just love your sense of humour! I was looking for somewhere to post my warning and this seems to be it...

I recently bought a Boots own brand product and paid with my Advantage card points. When I saw I'd received no over-60s discount, I changed my mind and paid cash getting both a 10% discount and card points in the process. I don't think this was always the case but I've checked with Head Office and they've confirmed that's the current procedure.

Clearly, it's better to reserve paying with points for non-Boots branded items where discounts don't apply anyway!

I'm pretty sure that I've had over 60s discount, 3 for 2 and paid with points. I used to save my points for the serum, waiting until it was on 3 for 2.

I have switched to Aldi serum, though. Seems just as good.

  • pollypenny - yes, 3 for 2 still works with points. One of the staff told me that the 10% discount was removed recently because they complained the staff didn't get it on their own deal. Couldn't find it in myself to make any reasoned comment about that!

I, too, am trying the Aldi serum after much hype in the press about it :-)
  • Just resurrecting an old thread to post my experiences and to ask if anyone else has had similar.

I've had a Boots Advantage card for years and made sure to get the over-60 discount thingy registered (mumble mumble) years ago. A couple of years back I noticed that it had stopped triggering the automatic 10% off at the till.

When I complained, Boots sent me a new card which I registered as before and all was well, until last week when I was charged full price on a Boots product.

I'm just wondering how common it is to have a card get corrupted like this. Anyone?
