Boots Health Club - check you get discount

I joined the Health Club card in March when I hit 60 - for the 10% off all Boots own brand products, including make up.
It took ages for them to sort out, they kept saying they had sent a welcome pack off but it wouldnt come, so Id ring again and so on. Well finally it came. I went to my local little Boots to activate my card and the girl there said, Yes, its activated now and it knocked 10% off my bill.
Since then Ive sort of assumed Im getting the 10% off every time but this week when I bought a lot of stuff on Boots.com I suddenly realised there was no discount shown. I contacted Boots customer service who sent me an email saying activate your card when you get your welcome pack!!
I wrote back telling them Id been through all this (and through one of their people telling me Id not get 10% discount on anything other than medicines!).
Today I had a phone call from customer service who said my card was not shown as activated. I said But it was activated, I got 10% off in store, so it should be activated for online purchases too.
They then said something about the chip in the card being fragile and it may have "dropped off". Gawd knows what thats about I said but you only activate it once, which I did, so that should be ok and show on my card record surely.
Well, this went on for a while and I really didnt follow this reasoning at all. You dont have to activate a card every time you use it do you? Once should be enough?
SO, Ive now asked them to go back to March to add up the discounts I should have got but didnt. Which they said they will (after asking for all my receipts from shops since that date - as if Id have those!).
SO, do check out you are actually getting your 10% discount guys. It was only by accident I realised I wasnt.

The health club discount is [STRIKE]clearly [/STRIKE]marked on the receipt (you don't always read the receipt? Shame on you).
I recently purchased £80 odd in our local store with 3 4 2, added points, double points, health club discount and we used some vouchers which we buy at 90p for £1.
I decided to check the till receipt. It took 30 mins and a spreadsheet. We achieved 46% discount from the RRP but who pays that anyway? The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Blimey, 30 minutes and a spreadsheet, LOL, my receipts go straight in the shredder.0

Surely LOL should be at the end
You should always retain receipts for the lifetime of the purchase and you should always check them, especially Tesco's, I find 50% of their's have errors. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Can I hire you?0

I have had that problem at Boots, but as I checked the receipt after I left the till, I just went back and asked for the discount.
It took ages; she had to go to the machine thing and do something there, then negate all my purchases and then enter them again!
Now I say to the assistant, just before I pay, "Did the over sixties discount work?" and then they can fix it straight away, if it does happen.
Also when I am calculating how much I have spent (in order to get extra points for a stated spend; I hate going over by more than a few pence), the discount can mean that I haven't spent quite as much as I need to for the extra points, so I know take an extra small, but needed item to ensure that it gives me the extra points.
Not quite in the league of using a spread-sheet, but squeezing every point out of spend!0 -
The point about the spreadsheet was that it worked out all the points on each item and bonus points and double points to the exact point. If you see the OP then there was some of everything - it was a fairly complex transaction.
Now I've been playing with numbers all my life and people are amazed when they watch me add up but there's no way I could do what the spreadsheet did in my head. But the real point was that if I had found an error I could have taken the hard copy into the shop as proof. Remember always keep hard copy especially receiptsThe only thing that is constant is change.0 -
I always check that points have been added correctly, too. The Chester shop used to be very sloppy on this.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
