I think the best way is the leaves.
The edible sweet chestnut has a single glossy long leaf, the horse chestnut (conker) has a duller version of the same leaf, only there are 5 of them in each leaf and they look a bit like a hand.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

The best/traditional time to pick sloes is after the first frost - problem is so many people pick them too early and they can all be gone by then ...0 -
I went down to pick some blackberries at the weekend and someone had definately not been following the "foragers code"..... none left for me!!0

I get the curry sauce from either tesco or asda for 5p, empty the sauce ( i dont like it) and then use the jars.
What Curry sauce is it please?
I really need more Jam Jars the cheapest ones I have seen are mint sauce at 19p but they went up to 25p a few days ago gggrrrrrrrr :mad:0 -
My sloe gin is festering nicely now, (seems early but the sloes really did look 'ready'), soooooo thinking ahead...I'm gonna be sieving the sloes out round about the end of October and have vaguely heard of making sloe gin jam/jelly but can't seem to find a recipe. Has anyone made this/know of a good recipe please? I just can't bear the thought of slinging away all those luvverly gin-soaked little beauties!!!!

Might as well have had three heads and danced around naked given some of the stares i got whilst doing it.
In trouble for DS ending up with purple chin / clothes

Could you use that in cooking in place of white wine vinegar?

It's disconcerting at first but i soon got over that. It's funny because people really think it's weird for someone to pick berries from a tree/bush or whatever and make something from them. Such a radical idea (sarc on)!! It's sad too in a way as people seem to have become so detached from their surroundings to the point they think everything edible on earth MUST come from a faceless warehouse called a supermarket.....:think:Did a bit of "blackberrying" yesterday.
