Court ?????
if you get to court.. there will be no long witness statements, no looking at correspondence... council tax defaulters just get rubber stamped ... done deal.... courts dont waste time on such nonsense as this.. AND you will be responsible for court fees and legal costs.. how dumb are you ??
never have a read such a ridiculously anal waste of time and energy as this thread...
i suggest we stop feeding him by refusing to engage any more with this insane nonsense....
OK, so who defaulted? The named person on the bill doesn't exist and the liable person has said she wants to pay but wants a bill?
Waste of time and energy? You're contributing!!Barry D0 -
Surely between yourself and your brother you can find the relevant laws far more easily and efficiently than by coming on to a forum mainly aimed at money saving (admittedly with a few experts here and there, but still) and arguing about it over two and half hours?0

The answer is probably yes, but as I said in my opening post:
'My first post...not really sure if I'lL find the answer here but here's to hoping!'
It was more a case of in my brother's absence, I'd see what I could find out for myself. This was the first forum I came across that looked to have vaguely relevant topics, hence my post. It has certainly provoked a lot of discussion, with some comments more relevant than others...Barry D0 -

Thanks. I think I've added a signature now.
You don't have to have a signature if you don't want one, Barry. What you read was Cannon Fodders signature, which takes the micky of the MSE mods.
Whenever the MSE team remove a posters signature, they leave a message which is similar to Cannon Fodders signature:DRENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
Read the sticky on the House Buying, Renting & Selling board.0 -

What a pompous !!!! you are, Barry D. The liability lies with the person whose name is on the agreement, even if said person has illeaglly sublet the property, as any agreement signed on that basis wouldn't be legal, would it?
Why not wait for your brother to get home and tell you to show the council the agreement, or wait until you end up having to cough up or answer endless enquiries from the council about non-payment of council tax for the period of the tenancy?
I would also hope quite fervently that noone who has used or is considering using your consultancy services comes across this forum and guesses that you may be someone he knows professionally, cos, Barry, you ain't coming out of this well.0
