I sold an England Football shirt and the guy claims to never have received it. He bought it 3 days before a world cup game and wanted it sent a.s.a.p. I printed the label off paypal and sent it through the post. I stupidly didnt get the proof of send thing filled out as I could not get to a postoffice. The guy says he didnt get it and ebay have refunded him and want me to pay the money now owed to ebay. I am 99% sure I have to bite the bullet and put it down to a bad experience. But on the off chance is there anything I can do??

A short but accurate answer.
BTW OP, did you just let the buyer open a paypal claim and win it, or did you refund before it closed? You were always going to lose with paypal and it is always best to refund th ebuyer with good grace as it usually avoids a neg and poor stars.
Also of course with no proof of posting you can't even claim your losses from RM.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Interestingly enough I had to contact a seller at the weekend to let them know that an item I had bought nearly two weeks ago had not arrived. They refunded me instantly so I did not have to open a claim.
How common is it to leave feedback in these cases? After all, the item never arrived so you can't comment on all areas?0 -
you dont really have a option0

in my experience, some buyers seem to prey on sellers who dont send recorded and always go for a chargeback. having seen some people's feedback, they have a long string of feedback replies from sellers saying 'i take back the previous statement - buyer claimed chargeback despite having received the item.'
i had one a while back with a guy in spain. his xbox live gamertag was the same as his ebay name. he bought a game and xbox live subscription for me which both went in the post together to spain. i saw his silver membership go to gold and he started playing the game i'd sold him (you can see in their game history on their profile) and he put in a claim saying it had never arrived and subsequently got a full refund (around £40). i added him to xbox live to ask him why he'd been such a cretin and he just kept sending me messages calling me stupid this, stupid that. saying he'd received the game. paypal and ebay just weren't interested.helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'

I have left a positive where a seller has apologised and refunded promptly, but I put something like 'seller dealt with situation promptly when item was lost'. I've also had positive feedback left for me where items have been lost, although recently a buyer did leave a neutral which made me a little cross as he elaves loads of neutrals.
If you are not comfortable with leaving a positive then don't leave any feedback at all.
If however a seller makes me go to a dispute or tries to argue the toss then I would neutral or neg them once i had my refund.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. All my items under £41 got 2nd class mail, I had 1 loss last year and 4 so far this year (2 of those were on Amazon). Personally I would just leave a comment, no stars.Enfieldian wrote: »Interestingly enough I had to contact a seller at the weekend to let them know that an item I had bought nearly two weeks ago had not arrived. They refunded me instantly so I did not have to open a claim.

It would make other buyers with a problem feel he was happy to sort things out before they got to a dispute. I had lovely positive feedback left for me by someone whose item got lost in the post; I asked her to wait a token few days after she contacted me, but nothing turned up and I refunded. She then bought some more cards from me, I sent those to her with extras of the same style of propaganda card that she'd bought as an apology for the previous loss, they arrived OK, and she gave me two positive FBs, which made me feel really good about the whole experience and possibly made people feel that I took complaints seriously.
The sad thing is, because of experiences like Brett's, some sellers do their darnedest to accuse innocent victims of the vagaries of the (international - not just picking on RM) postal system of fraud and precipitate disputes.
I've always felt the odd issue with fraud doesn't mean that I should treat everyone as a criminal. Trust often breeds trust."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

A very true statement indeed.
I know it is off topic (apologies to OP) but if i thought every buyer on ebay was a scammer I just wouldn't sell there any more.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
