All you need is a USB wireless adapter, something like this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-WG111-Wireless-54Mbps-Adapter/dp/B0002LHX8O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1280152729&sr=8-2
Most wireless routers have 4 ethernet ports in addition to the wireless capability.
Your son will probably know all this stuff if you get stuck. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

yep , wireless xbox he has ...but what adapter does my laptop need to connect wirelessly to that router? or would i have to be wired to it (not that much of a problem i guess)
If your laptop has a card slot, about 2 inches in length, you can plug in a wireless card, alternatively you can get USB adapters you plug into a USB slot. A quick google / amazon of wireless card and USB wireless adapters will bring it up.0 -
Based on other posts on here virgin are usually very quick to offer a free ADSL wireless router if threatened with leaving, if they actually do have an equivilent cable modem/router combined model it would definitely be worth putting pressure on them for one...0
