Drive belt

Is this a good idea and does it save engine wear? Apart from wasting petrol idling for ten minutes, I thought it was better to drive off normally after starting the engine but not revving it too much while it is running cold.
dont bother idling for 10 mins waste of fuel, best thing is as you say start up and drive sensible until warmed up.0 -
Is there any coloured staining in the engine bay? Have you noticed a drop in coolant at all?
Check the thermostat housing on the side of the engine, I think on a mondeo it's near the top on the right, it's a black square box about 4" square. Have a look if it's leaking around the seal at all. Fords have fairly weak housings that crack on the inside and cause it to leak coolant everywhere. It'll start off fairly small but can get pretty severe.0 -
Fords............can get pretty severe.

I posted a few weeks back on here, regards I have a raditor leaking which just suddenly came to light one morning when there was a little amount of water on the floor.
Happened a few times till I looked into it more, and saw the main hose going into the raditor was leaking, very tiny amounts of coolant.
I stopped the leak with RadWell which since, no coolant has been lost whatsoever.
Regards the sight noise re the belt, at idle its makes a 'tick tick.......tick tick......tick tick.....' noise as it goes round at idle, rev the engine and it goes 'tick tick..tick tick..tick..tick..tick' so I'm thinking maybe the belt is worn and fraying?!
However, can't look till I get the tools out this week and get the plastic housing off to have a look.
There is a small amount of oily stuff on the belt and a very tiny amount just under where the belt runs.
Car isn't getting any hotter, or losing any water.
It does use a lot of fuel, I'm getting 20 MPG if I'm lucky, but it's a V6 so what do you expect, that's round town however.
On a long run urban I get anywhere between 35-40 MPG so a huge difference.
I don't mind changing the belt etc but would like to know what the problem is before I start a job.0
