Hopefully we'll exchange this week! Maybe. Please God.
Sounds like mine is really dragging on then.......been just over 12 weeks
Im having sleepless nights now!0 -

I bought a house as a first time buyer (mortgage too) and completed the whole thing in about a month from viewing to getting the keys.0 -
I should exchange tomorrow, complete Friday, which would be 5.5 weeks. It is empty and I'm an FTB.0

4-6 weeks for a freehold is the norm.0

just finished a cash sale with no chains at all...we asked for a month...it took 13 weeks..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Hi, We are in the same situation. We accepted the offer on June 7th. Despite efforts to hurry the process it seems to take as long as it takes! I've been told to expect 6-8 weeks. We are into our 7th week today. Everything is packed ready to go. I'll let you know as soon as we do!:)
Hi, I've been told that we are working towards completion August 6th. Fingers crossed for both of us! HTHThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Oh that is exciting - did you get the price you wanted for it?
My purchase took forever, due to the management company employing a notoriously 'thorough' soliciitor. 13 weeks to buy a vacant flat, me a FTB, vendor already moved into an inherited property!!!Emergency savings: 4600
0% Credit card: 1965.000 -
We are just selling and not buying anywhere in order to speed up the sale Ha Ha Ha!
It has been 12 weeks now and we insisted on a quick exchange as a proviso of the sale. What a waste of time. Our solicitor is all ready and has been for weeks, we signed the contract weeks ago. The buyers had their survey done 2 months ago and their mortgage offer about 7 weeks ago. So what is the problem? Their useless solicitor, who does absolutely nothing, it seems to me. He says he is using the searches from our HIP, so he does not even have that excuse.
I am furious, we need a really quick sale and we have already passed 2 deadlines for exchange. I do not know what you can do or say to speed up these useless solicitors who just seem to take forever, as they can.0 -
Hi, just to let you know that we did complete and moved on August 6th. Sorry, just got got back online yesterday. I hope everyone else has got through the maze ok by now. We were still hanging on the day before in a will we?/ won't we? situation. There has to be a better way. I can only advise everyone to make a nuisance of themselves with the solicitors. Although I did find it embarrassing you have to make yourself their priority. Good luck everyone:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
