I do hope you listed him as the main driver if he is, The insurance will want to investigate if he has an accident.

They will cancel the policy if you tell porkies.

He could try a Advance Driving Test, at his cost.

However the price you have been given sounds OK to me, as he is 17 years old and of course he is a high risk group of drivers with no much road use, so he is and will be a risk to the insurer.

Just got a good deal from Direct Line for my 19 year old daughter, first policy in her own name, passed her test 16 months ago, actually more expensive if I added myself or my wife to the policy. The next best price I got was from Confused.com through Elephant, this was cheaper with my wife and I included than without us on.

  • gender isnt factored into the equasion for car insurance now. it has to be equal for both genders.

    doing this:

mum, dad, sister, brother (anyone with experience) main driver and you son NAMED DRIVER IS ILLEGAL and fruadulant whiilst may be tempting can open a can of worms if iinvolved in an accident. always be a named driver doesnt affect any NCB on onther vehcile.

comperhensive can work out cheaper then TP or TPFT.

security, alarms, immobiliser as stanard fitment arent really taken onboard by insurers unless it has a catagorised thatchem alarm, so an aftermarket alarm that is of thatchem catagory and recognised by the insurers can bring discounts so some investment may be needed (spend money to save money) search ebay for NEW not used NEW alarms systems and get quotes for fitting) if you spend £200 on alarm or immobiliser and reduced the insurance by same or more when it come time to renew will have the same impact so security does have benefits in the long term. trackers privatly fitted and subcribed can reduce premiums also (not worth the effort on a 10 yearld banger TBH)

pass plus (some insurers do not take these anymore) helps alot for the first year.

    seek out local brokers.

carefull with tracker based insurance, some charge as much as £150+ per everytime the curfew is broken and no leeway is given to genuin emergency's.

descirbe any job title and descripion as accuratly as you can, if its not listed, then phone them for their descriptor of your job tittle.

mileage less you do can help the more you add has a negative affect.

multicar policys worth a go if your son lives at home with his own car be named driver non frequent of even non user to his policy.

if he's in education or employment, he will need the social domestic and commuting cover self employed and using own vehicle. buisiness cover.

try and stay within insurance groups 1-6. declaire any modifactions that are NOT FACTORY FITTED.
