Cheap car insurance for new driver
Hi, I hope someone can help me please. My son (17) has just passed his test and the insurance company wants a further £1000 to insure him on a 2006 fiesta 1.2, and thats with his parents and 5 years NCB. Is there ANY company that doesnt rip us off out there? I've tried dozens of companies and their all the same.
Can anyone help please?
Thank you,
Kind Regards,
Godfrey.:(

It's not a rip off that is the risk of a newly qualified 17 years old male has on insurance.
You have tried everywhere so it shows that its the same with every insurance company.0 -
£1K sounds about right for a 17 year old, newly qualified driver. I paid £1300 TPFT on a 10 year old 1.3 Fiesta, mind I was 20 at the time, no real difference it's still below 25, I dunno if you would get a slightly better quote if you wait until he's 18?0

When I was 17, pretty much all my friends who passed their tests and bought cars had an accident in their 1st year.Can totally see why its so expensive, especially as these days injury claims make up a large part of the claim.
There's not much you can do really short of getting something thats the lowest possible grouping with a lawnmower engine in it.0 -
My Insurance as a first time driver was only £650 but I think thats because of my age although now i'm driving I do wish I had learn't when I was younger. I'm not sure if insurance was as dear 20 years ago though.0

Insurance companies charge that much because young drivers particularly males tend to have the most accidents, I know not all young drivers are bad but we all come across many that are
Its not a rip off mealy the perceived risk associated with young drivers0 -
Well done Kimberley for passing your test recently :T
Yes it has to do with age, gender, car, location, experience and more. I think insurance nowadays cost more than a decade ago when I was driving, my 1st car a pug 205 1.1 cost £1k for me to insure. I didnt do that, had a relative as the main driver and it was £500 a year. Yes it was fronting I know, but I guess one are likely to get away with it at that time. The most I paid for insurance was £590 TPFT for a 1.6 corolla which was worth £2000 at the time. I wouldnt able to afford it if I am an 18 years old male now.0 -
!!!!, come to Northern ireland!
insurance for me as a first time driver (I'm 25) is £3000 for a 1.1 VW Polo. :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:0 -
£1k is actually very very good for a 17 year old (if its in his own name).Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

interestingly I phoned Tesco tonight as Junior has his test in three weeks time and asked what the new premiums would be if he passed his test.
I was told that there was no increase........having said that the premiums did go up by £1K just adding him to the policy as a learner thought!2014 Target;
