Guess it depends where you live too. Down here a property will rent for £700, similiar house, area etc in wales say can be £400. The wages are still the same though.
That's entirely your fault for choosing to live in an overcrowded place with inflated property prices as a result. I live in East Yorks and am about to buy a second house - 3 beds for £123,000 and its not the only one at that price. My brother lives further north on a nice housing estate in Sunderland and pays £300 a month for a new build.0

Personally, I find it hard to think about what someone can do to 'deserve' more money when I see care workers earning NMW and footballers, bankers, sales reps, etc. earning obscene amounts.
Really shows what we value in this country.
I'd probably leave sales reps out. I have seen too many of their contracts But I am right with you on footballers and bankers (but not bank staff!) 0 But I am right with you on footballers and bankers (but not bank staff!) 0

I could be wrong and if I am then it is upto the OP to be pushing himself in terms of applying for better paid jobs because they are out there regardless of how tough the current situation is
My point was that you used the word 'deserve' which is very subjective and very charged. Healthcare assistants, binmen, bus drivers etc. don't need a lot of education or apprenticeships to do their jobs, but they are valuable and necessary to society nonetheless, I personally feel that they 'deserve' to be valued accordingly.
If nobody wanted to do them and all went off to get trained for higher paid jobs we'd be in bit of a pickle. Is anybody else nerdy enough to be reminded of the 'Golgafrinchams' from Hitchhikers Guide?0

I'm good friends with one, he makes ridiculous amounts of money for the work involved, plus a new company car every year and an expenses account that would make an MPs eyes water.
I don't begrudge him his situation, we all have to make our decisions about how to live in the society we happen to find ourselves in, but it does sadden me a bit.
With you on bank staff, another good friend works in a branch. Decent money, good employer by all accounts but I don't think her bonus was in triple figures this year!0

It's a true point that you say but I guess the OP is looking for progression through life in terms of employment and with it the better wages but to do this on the whole (yes there are obviously exceptions) you need to further yourself. People who generally (again yes there are exceptions) do the jobs you put above are happy to do those jobs and no more.....they are happy to go earn a wage come home and that be itThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

but if everyone moved to these cheaper places then the house prices there would escalate as they too would become overcrowded? I guess really tho it doesnt make too much difference. Tax credits etc would be the same where ever you are so the only difference being the housing benefit which for low income families buts them all on even footing.0

Its not necessarily about having a poor education either. There are no jobs out there, and most of them are for NMW or near enough, regardless of what the job is.
Uhhh where do you live? I'm in the South West (one of the most expensive places in the country) and we can get a nice 2 bedroom house for 100k Green and White Barmy Army!0 Green and White Barmy Army!0

Some people do those jobs because they love them, get a sense of satisfaction from making a valid contribution and helping others, and do them despite the low wages. I have a feeling none would object to a slight pay rise!
I think you underestimate the stresses involved in some lower paying jobs. A PCSO who's had to break up disturbances, a HCA who's cared for someone seriously ill or dying, even a bus driver who's had a violent incident occur on his bus isn't going to just clock off and go home with no further thought on it the rest of the evening.0

But then I know a binman who is paid for 7:24 hoirs work per day and actually works three hours. I guess there are always "people we know" that prove something. Just not sure what it is that it proves 0 0
