never mind the fact that the agencys are having one of the tougher times with less jobs to fill so whilst the costs stay the same the number of places they have to fill are lower.
Its never quite so black and white as you may thinkThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

I run my own business and if it wasn't for tax credits I would have been on the dole a long time ago. I earn about £8k a year from my business and the rest is tax credits. My tax bill is around £500 a year too.
Sometimes I really wish i could get a job pushing trolleys in a supermarket as it would pay a lot more than fixing computers does in a recession!.
I do drive a brand new car, but that is because my old bangers were costing me too much in repairs so the new car is easier to manage. It is also about the cheapest car on the market, 60mph and group 1 insurance so it saves me money in the long term.
I have no chance at all in ever buying a house at this rate. I just feel there is no jobs so I just stick at doing this as it is better than being on the dole. I have little sympathy for those moaning about the minimum wage. I am on less than that, I have a degree and other qualifications too so it is not like I haven't worked hard in the past.
Edit my car is essential as I am always transport valuable computer parts, I could not do that on a bus! If I worked in an office 9-5 I wouldn't need a car though. I did used to even run my business on public transport but it was not professional asking for lifts all the time.0

I believe that some agency out there are struggle at the moment but this particular agency is having a good time. They have loads of different vacancies and their clients are mainly eastern europeans who more then happy to work for NMW.
I also see sometimes as their recruitment consultants are driving expensive cars and having regular holidays. You wouldn't buy a brand new mercedes on a NMW.0

unfortunately they are in the business of trying to make money. Its about supply and demand, if they have enough vacancies and enough people wanting to work for them they will always try to make more money out of this.0

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I wanted my say.
To the OP - You can live on any wage if you try hard enough, you seem to be under the impression you're owed a high quality of life and that luxuries are a necessity.
I started on £1.50 an hour @ 16 as little ago as 1997 pre NMW, that was £58 p/w take home after NI. I wasn't living at home at the time so I managed to set up an arrangement with a friend's parents about kipping in my mates room on a camp bed, I paid them £30 p/w board which included my evening meal with them, that left me £28 p/w for transport (which I used for bike maintenance as I refused to waste it on bus fairs) and other food whilst at work etc.
If you work hard then you reap what you sow, I could have moaned like an old woman about the crap wage and how I was so hard done by, instead I worked as many hours and weekends as I could, even knowing full well it was only an extra 75p p/h, it was all worth it, £58 would become £75-80, my hard work and commitment didn't go unnoticed and after 12 months my wage was doubled to £3 p/h. I kept on at this until eventually I was the highest paid man on the shop floor at the lowly age of 21, I then applied for a job at a large car manufacturer and my annual wage went from £12.5k to £22.5k basic, £26k after shift pay and it actually averaged £29k after all the OT.
Sitting around moaning about the poor wages wont get you anywhere, get out there, suck it up and get on with it, if you're any good at what you do or have half a brain an employer will recognise it and reward you for it, if not change employer to one that does.
Unfortunately it's all gone wrong for me now and just this morning I was at court to declare myself bankrupt, all those years of hard graft on low wages down the swanny. Not to worry though, I'll be back out earning NMW and making it work again with no problems, whilst you carry on bleating about not being paid £30k PA to lean on a brush handle for 7.5hrs a day.0

I have a friend who works for an agency. This agency used to pay them £6.15 per hour 2 years ago. Now they pay them ....£5.80 per hour. They have reduced their pay simply because it's .....a recession. This is ridiculous!!!!!!!! They have find out that agency getting paid £12 p/h for every employee.... £6.20 for doing nothing is a good profit for an agency!!!!
Stop complaining and set up an agency yourself.

I work in a hotel and they reduced our wages when the recession hit saying they can't afford to pay us anymore... (NMW) yet they make 1/2 million a month.. and have had a full house for the majority of this year.. I cant afford to live any longer off the wage.. continues to look for new jobs because it doesnt look like they are going to up the wages again..Audi - Vorsprung durch Technik 0 0
