Thanks for advice! So far what i have done is changed the cam shaft sensor which the computer was reading in the diagnostics. I have a small handheld which told me the fault.also double checked with a garage near by which read the same thing. So i paid £60 for cam shaft sensor which didnt solve the problem. Then i Bought a Crank shaft sensor which i could not install because you have to take it to a nissan dealer for them to amend something as its a new sonsor out. I have changed plugs air filter etc and cleaned it out with carb cleaner too. But when i pull the plug out of the crank shaft sensor the car will not splutter it runs perfect. Just no power when driving! But Nissan told me when the cam shaft sensor reading appears and everything has been changed then its down to the Timing chain! So i hope folks what should i do! Thanks again for your replies

There would not be any device to take up the slack that would be stupid. Should only be a tensoner.0 -
No rattle at all. its even hard to start now i have to pull the crank sensor plug out to get it to start! best thing is i only bought the car 3 weeks ago private. and was advertised full service history. When i checked the book last service was 2005.0

I still stand by what I said, £600 to change the belt is far to much, you probably could get the same job for less than half the price using the same parts, you are not obligated to use nissan at all , and as the car is 7 years old I would stay well clear of a main dealer.0

Well i have it booked in with Nissan for the morning. have to drive 1 hour to get there hope this does not do anymore damage to car. For the sake of £100 between private mechanic and dealer i am scared the mechanic does not fix it right. and as for nissan they have the real nissan diagnostics to tell me the true problem.0

Other halfs Micra wouldnt accelerate properly, and gurgled and spluttered when you put your foot on the accelerator. Turned out to be the sensor in the Throttle body.
400 quid from Nissan a they replace the complete unit 25 quid plus a bit of creative cutting to get the old one out and replaced, takes 20mins max.
If it turns out to be the oxygen sensor in the throttle body its a 5 point torx with anti tamper OR get a hacksaw and saw the head of it so you can unscrew with a normal screwdriver.0 -

Got news today from Nissan it was the timing chain. Also needed two engine flushes as the oil was so thick. thats what i got when i bought a car wich said full service history when it didnt. last service on the book was 2005 so see what happens now! well bill now £600 so far0

Oh dear OP.
I know the chain stretching was also a common problem on 1.5 litre Almera engines.
Does your car have full Nissan Service history? Even if not, it might be worth writing a stiff letter to Nissan UK HQ, asking for a contribution, explaining the issue and showing the regular service intervals (if you have these stamped in the book).
Your mileage is not disclosed, but the chain should last the life of the engine.
I think you did the right thing getting the work done at the dealer, Nissan are more likely to refund a portion or offer a goodwill payment in that case.Hoping this year is better than the last.0
