Alternatives to BT Vision

Hi
I have BT vision, but i'm looking for a cheaper alternative. We get TV (very limited channels given the price imo), landline (we don't even have a phone as we all use mobiles) and internet which we use a bit but are not "power users"
This all costs £30 a month. Way too much in my opinion.
TV - I don't see that BT vision offers anything that Freeview does not (indeed maybe less) - so i was thinking of replacing that with a freeview box - are there any that offer hard disc recording as that is quite a useful feature.
Phone - we're happy with our mobiles - we get loads of free minutes so don't need a landline for anything.
Internet - we do need the internet, so what are our options, I suppose we must have BT line rental but what are the current best options for us?
I think internet is the only thing we need to pay for these days. I'd like to obviously spend as little as possible - we don't need fancy features other than a decent download 'limit'
Advice on my situation appreciated!

Hi,
There are several options for you really to help bring down your costs. In order to discuss other providers apart from BT you will need to see what exchange you are in at www.samknows.com it will let you know which providers have their own equipment in the exchange (meaning a cheaper cost to you). I can however advise you on the BT account.
You could ask for the £3 off your line rental bringing it down to £10.29 (after the price increase) and ask for Broadband Option 2 (40GB usage) and the basic call plan for £10.99 per month. You could also remove your BT Vision subscription so you have the box for free to use for the freeview recording facility. You wont get a monthly charge for recording and watching your freeview but anything you use On Demand is added to your bill individually.
All this is assuming you are out of contract or nearing the end for your Broadband and your BT Vision.
It would be worth checking Sam Knows first to see what is available and replying.

First of all it's just the Freeview channels your after with hard disc rocording, then go a box with Freeview+ (This won't include any on demand content).Internet - we do need the internet, so what are our options, I suppose we must have BT line rental but what are the current best options for us?

Internet you'll want to stray away from BT (they are very expensive), I'm with Plusnet at the moment, and I find them very good, both with speeds (constant 8Mb speed) and Customer Services. It only costs me £17.99 (£11.49 for the first 3 months).0
