O2 - changing to lower tarriff after 9 months?

Options
On 24 month, £30 month contract but I see you can downgrade by one level after 9 months. Also, it seems to say you can downgrade once a month after this? Is this correct?

So, after 9 months, I could go to £25 month contract, then after 10 months to £15 month. Anyone tried this?

  • Hi there

Yes; you can do exactly what you are suggesting there. Provided you will still be covered with enough minites/texts/internet, you drop from a £30 to a £25, then on and on to the lowest tariff they offer or you want.

Someone did post on here to say they had intended to do the drop, but the tariff they wanted had disappeared by the time they got to 9 months!!

What you need to do is work to the rule "If you can't afford the tariff, don't get it".

Of course, but you've got to factor in whether its worth getting the free phone that you sign up for.

For instance, even though I could get an o2 simplicity contract for £15 a month, I dont get a phone. If I can pay £30 for 9 months, £25 for 1 month, and then go down to £15, I've, in effect, paid 9x£15 + 1x£10 = £145 for the phone....

(BTW - its a nice Samsung android phone £438 on amazon)
