Evening Taxi, looking forward to hearing about the new life plans and all the jaunts in your new motor!
I've always had diesels too, but am wondering whether a petrol car might be cheaper to run these days. £1.30+ for a litre of diesel :eek:0 -
Happy new car

Depends on lots of factors - traditionally the theory always was that you needed to do a certain number of miles to make a diesel worthwhile, but with the advances on the sheer number of extra MPG you get from a diesel engine these days, this is proving less true. You need to consider:
MPG petrol -v- diesel - for example my 1.5d Clio does 60mpg, whereas the "equivalent" 1.2 petrol would do 45mpg. That means for me around an extra 120 miles per tank out of the diesel.
Tax: A small modern diesel costs next to nothing for road tax - mine costs me £30 p/a - that equivalent would, I think, be £120 p/a
Longevity: If you're planning to keep the car long term, a well looked after diesel engine will generally last longer than its petrol equivalent.
The flipsides are:
Initial purchase cost if buying new - typically around £1500 - 2k more for the diesel on a small car.
Cost of the fuel as you go along - round here about 4p a litre difference or about £1.60 more each time I fill up.
Tyres - a slightly bizarre one but there is no question in my mind that mine goes through front tyres faster than my old petrol engined Clio did - presumably because of the heavier lump in the front end. (no, NOT me before anyone pipes up with that one!)
Servicing costs: Not 100% certain about this but I believe a diesel costs a little more to get serviced.
Al in all, for me, I would not switch back to a petrol engine now even though my annual mileage has dropped from around 18k a year to, I'm guessing, well under 10k.
Taxi when I changed from Petrol to diesel I was petrified I was going to put the wrong fuel in! Even now I make really certain that I check the pump carefully just in case I have a blonde moment!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Morning all..hope everyone is ok.
Think I'm out of hibernation now.Have finished the antibiotics now and feeling a little less tired.
Am going to venture out later to do the banking and to book our holiday.Have decided we'll slum it on Thomas Cook airlines so that we can go to the place I have my heart set on.
I'm going to join WWs next week and make a start on this massive amount of weight I need to lose.
On the money front I've just transferred £12 FROM PAYPAL TO MY ACCOUNT which in due course will go in the savings.
Have set up DSs online banking and can now take charge of his money so he doesn't get in a mess again..
Have checked all the bank accounts this morning and all are good.
Think I'll treat DD and myself to a nice coffee in town whilst we're out as not had one for ages.
It's usually DHs day off today but he's decided to work today and have tomorrow off as he's hoping it'll be busy tonight with the Liverpool/Blackpool match....so here's hoping.
Have a good day everyone xxx
forgot to say am going to take the internet price for the holiday to the shop to see if they'll price match it...0 -
