Morning all....am on at ungodly hour as fell asleep at 9pm and just woke up..lol

Had quite an eventful day today....nearly never got for my rads.DH went to start the car but it wouldn't start!!!!...got a cab to jump start us and luckily after we came out of the hospital it started ok but went to have it checked at Vauxhall as it only had a new alternator a few weeks ago..whikst waiting there for ages had time to have a look around..lol

Turns out in the end the battery had low amperage but they didn't have one in stockand adviced we went elsewhere to get one.We did and bought a top of the range one with a 4 year unlimited warranty...so that's that sorted.

Well back onto the cars at the garage.I was sat staring out the window when my eye was drawn to a Zafira that they were parking up.Don't know why as wasn't looking to buying a car at the moment. The urge was really strong and I kept resisting but eventually I went over...it was a 57 plate on at £7295 which I thought was very reasonable..so I asked the man pthat was moving the cars how many miles it had done and it's only done 3000 miles...not even worn in...asked him what price he'd do for cash and he didn't have much room for negotiation as I know what they paid motability for it but managed to get him to £7k....told him I'd think about it and went to deal with getting the battery as it was 4pm at this time.

discussed it with DH who didn't even know I wanted my own car.He told ne to treat myself as it totally serves my purposes and will have full service history, network q warranty, tax and last me a long time.So I phoned them up and put a £100 deposit on it to take it off sale and will transfer the money from my savings for it.

They said they'd rush it through between christmas and new year but I said to just do it after new year as that gives them time to sort it and I'll not be driving until after new year anyway. It gives me chance to move the money about as well.

I usually wouldn't have a 2nd car and would just use the taxi if I needed to get anywhere.I'm not going back to work and DH and I have agreed that I should enjoy whatever time I have left...hopefully a long time but who knows.
The new car will be great as I can go away when I want and it won't affect DHs cabbing and I won't have to use public transport.I have turned many things down due to time constraints with the cab and feel a car will give me more freedom and I can accept invitations.

I was going to talk to DH in a couple of months about getting a run around for me..this is why he didn't know I wanted a car. When he saw this one he said he'd like me to have it as it will be reliable as it's as good as new with only 3000 on the clock and he thought it was a good price.the boot will be great for the dog so we can take her on good walks...will help my weight.

Have had a zafira before and it was the best car we'd ever had for versatility...I also love the height of the seat as it's much easier on my back getting in and out.

Taxi - I know it might sound really odd, but can you PM me your address. I've found a small present at work that is perfect for you, and esp so after your new purchase.

Although I've only posted once, I have some experience of the year you've had since my sis is about 18 months ahead of you.

    Have a lovely Christmas!

I had a zafira a few years back as a courtesy car and it was brilliant. I would have liked to have one permanently but the prices were high, that is a brilliant price and i totally get your point about the seat height.

You will have such independance and also get all the kids and grandkids in for nice days out :)
  • I'm really pleased for you, you deserve to have the freedom and the choices that will bring and paying cash even nicer xx
