Neighbours cigarette and bbq smoke

live and let live
Exactly, I am sure the OP does, or has done something at some time that their neighbours were not happy about.
My neighbours at the weekend have their grand kids over, they make one awful noise out in the garden, which I would far prefer didn't happen, but I realise that it is just one of those things.

OP is only asking about screening the smell from their garden! What's wrong with that?0 -
Brilliant idea, I’d also market it for non-smokers, feed it from an air cylinder and then the customer could choose the air they wanted, alpine air would be popular, other options could be sea breezes, English countryside etc.
You could have a secondary system that could add smells, bakery, roasting coffee or even smoke for reformed smokers

Add on a Marks and Spencer's jam sponge aroma and I'm with you. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
I think you'd have to try to deflect the smoke by putting/ planting something tall between that part of your garden and theirs where the problem is. If you have a fence with posts, you can get 'extenders'

I'd mention it to the neighbours first to see if they minded.
If there was an issue with the smell coming through the fence, you could line the fence with a membrane and plant densely to hide it.
My neighbour is amazed when I call hello and wonders how I know she's in her garden when I can't possibly see she's there. It's because I can't see her - but I can smell her!!!!!!!!0 -

She has a bath once a month whether she needs one or not to get rid of that fishy smell? :rotfl:"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I think smokers should be made to wear 'head bubbles'. These would be attractive clear 'fish bowl shaped' head wear which will contain the smoke thus avoiding annoying others and ensuring others are free to breath the good clean air nature supplied us with. They would also save the smoker money in the long run as the effects of the cigs will be inside the bubble and can be breathed in for longer. A small 'non-return' valve would be inset at mouth level and the cig can be inhaled at this point but the smoke would not automatically pass back through. A small hatch could be placed at the top of the bubble to manually allow the smoke to escape upwards, whenever the smoker is about to pass out with the fumes.
Have I just come up with an excellent new invention?Any takers? :rotfl:

If you have to keep your door closed, get some cheap meat and put it in a plastic bag in an open dustbin next to the fence. Let it rot, and make sure it is fox proof. They get the smell and flies.0

Water your garden with one of those things that rotates so is sprays water in your garden and over your fence, when they complain about the water coming over then you can come to a compromise with then regarding the smoke and the BBQ.0

I just cannot believe how petty and pathetic some people are.
The OP should move away from all neighbours if something so trivial upsets them.0 -

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but could you possibly be a smoker?
OP, why not play some loud music every time that you are directly affected by the fumes from next door? For example, 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes', on a constant loop for a few hours.
Your peaceful enjoyment of your garden is being disrupted by them so why not reciprocate? Maybe they will then start to comprehend how they are annoying you. Some people (like our friend above) have no respect for others, preferring instead to 'live and let live' totally oblivious of the hassle they are causing.Marching On Together
