Looks like I might have to go bankrupt after all

    Dear TMD,
When my wife and I found ourselves in a similar position to yourself I spoke to the CCCS who were very helpful and able to suggest a number of options. Ours was a particularly complicated situation because it involved a business as well as personal debt. Our choice was to list all the companies we owed money to and write to them explaining that due to a change in our financial circumstances we were unable to pay more than a nominal £1 per month. We included a household budget that showed our true position and almost without exception the proposal was accepted subject to a six monthly review.

    In summary:
    (1) Offer a £1 / month and don't pay any of the "!!!!!!s" a penny more.
    (2) Pay essential utilities only.
    (3) Save as much as you're able for a rainy day.
    (4) Chances are your credit rating is already "shot to pieces" so think about yourself and yr children and let the credit companies do their worst. If you know what your legal rights are the companies are remarkably impotent and only employ the "windbag" debt collection agencies as a means of intimidating people.

We've travelled the route your looking at and it does get better; it's a struggle but it certainly gets better.

I know..it's unfair I agree-he should be paying me a lot more so I would be able to come off income support :( I can't stop claiming Income Support though as I can't make ends meet as it is-I'd struggle even more without that maintenance and Income Support payment :(

    Hi TMD,

It's not your fault, it's the system.

You have every right to claim all your entitled to.

It sounds like you are going through a turbulent / stormy time at the moment but don't worry the blue skies will return again.

I hope things get better, keep positive and things often turn out a lot better than you expect.

Try not to worry to much, take one day at a time and small positive steps.

Look after yourself and apologies for ranting about the system on your thread.

    All the best.
  • Thank you all-I really appreciate it-I'm going to ring CCCS in the morning and see what they advise,as it may be possible to tweak the budget a bit.(I don't spend anything on pocket money for example)
