    Hi

    Why not?

The business is a mobile business, but because of theft etc my work tools have to be kept inside my home overnight rather than in my van, therefore I have to put them into my van of a morning and out of my van of an evening. What is so bad about that. I am parked outside my own home for around 5 minutes of a morning and 5 minutes of an evening ;)

Are you suggesting that all self employed people should not be allowed to store their tools in their own homes, for example my next door neighbour runs a market stall and stores his stock in his own home, each morning he loads it into his van and of an evening he unloads it, I don't have a problem with that, as far as I am aware there is nothing illegal in doing so.

If you're just loading and unloading for 5 minutes then that is still perfectly legal on double yellows withou loading restrictions. Loading restrictions are usually only applied to very busy routes and are indicated by yellow stripes on the pavements, perpendicular to the road iyswim. No yellow stripes - load to your heart's content.
