Double Yellow Lines Outside Home Will Cause My Business Problems

Options
Hi Guys

Forgive me if I have posted in the wrong place.

I live on a main road which is quite narrow and I don't have a drive way, opposite my house is a nursing home and next to the nursing home there is 3 semi terraced houses.

Directly outside my house does not have yellow lines, but common sense stops me from parking there as the road is quite narrow. If I did park there buses and lorrys etc would find it extremley difficult to pass by and no doubt remove my wing mirrors in the process.

My problem now is that residens of a small dead end close off my road have complained to the council that my parking and my neighbours parking is causing a blind spot when they try to leave their close.

This is understandable, but TBH I have never had a problem exiting the close onto my road, by edging out slowly and waiting for the traffic to clear. Anyway the council are now about to paint double yellow lines where my neighbours and myself currently park, meaning that we will no longer have anyway to park (unless we park directly outside of our houses causing the road to become very narrow)
I run a business from home and really need to have my vehicle close by and now feel that these restrictions could eventually cause me to have to cease trading.

Do I just have to accept the councils decision or can I ask them to consider my difficulties.

Thank you in advance

There is always an opportunity to make representations to the council and register your objections. Are there not planning notices on nearby telegraph poles telling you how to do this?

Talk to your local councillor. Get him on your side.

You have the right to contact the Council and make an appeal against such Yellow lines being laid.

You will need to contact your local Traffic and Parking Services Department at the Council, details will be easily found on on there website

Consider renting business premises with off road parking facilities.;)
  • Hi

Basically it's a small mobile business, so I don't require business premises, but obviousley I do require access to my home to enable me to load and unload my van and I am just a bit worried that the proposed yellow lining of one side of the road could eventually creep onto my side of the road meaning there will be no parking facilities at all.
It's hard to explain but parking on my side of the road causes the road to become very narrow and dangerous, that is why most residents use their common sense and park on the other side, with that taken away they will be forced to park on my side of the road which will no doubt lead to complaints and more double yellow lines

You need to find out exactly what restrictions are being proposed.

If normal yellows then there is generally a loading/unloading exemption & you would still be able to carry on as you are now.

It's a tricky one, I can have sympathy for both sides...... Normally however it's just one incompetent busy body who complains and they complain at official level because they fear talking to the person involved

It may even be worth going down the street any having words, firstly apologise for the parking and try to explain to people your reasons. It's easier to complain about someone you don't even know.

    Hi

Thank you for your reply, what gets me so annoyed about the whole situation is that I already know quite a few of the neighbours and we get on fine, what upsets me most is that they have obviousley gone behind mine and other neighbours backs, instead of discussing it firstly like adults.

I suspect they don't like the fact that you are running a business from a private address.

Not sure that I would be happy about that either.;)
