    that price is excessive.
Paying for work part way through a job isn't unusual but for a bathroom it is. It's not likely to take any more than a 4-5 days.
So he's wanting 25% on agreeing, 25% within 3 days, another 25% half way throguh the job (very likely to be within 3 days) and the remainder at the end???

I'd be paying nothing until the job is complete. All the builder is providing is labour (albeit skilled) and some extras like grout, beading, any additional pipe work etc.

Get another quote and expect it to be around half....with nothing paid until job is complete.

Hi, we have been quoted £3K for slightly more work than you are having done by the sounds of it and we are in the home counties. i though we were being ripped, I am confident you are being bent over and ridden home as well. Like others have commented, I reckon you are paying double what you should be if not more. Get more quotes and ask them to breakdown the labour and materials, find out how many days they will be there and try and work back a daily rate, then you have some kind of yard stick to judge if you think its reasonable or not. And no way on gods earth ever pay before the job is done. I'd be keen to know how you fare. I am getting royaly fed up with plumbers taking the absolute p*ss. I'm sure there are many out there who dont but it seems finding them isnt always that easy......Good luck
