    Made snooker what it is today. RIP

    No he didn't :naughty::naughty:

    Snooker today is more boring than cricket , golf or watching paint dry (ronnie O'Sullivan aside).

    In Alex's day it was far more interesting and exciting and he was capable of some incredible play - remember seeing a frame, don't recall who against, where he pulled out ridiculous, incredible shots one after the other - one of, IMO, few snooker players worth watching.

    Sad to read - hadn't heard till I saw this thread - RIP Alex.

    thank you so very,very much - been wanting to see this again for many, many years and had no idea who the opponent was or anything so had no chance of finding it.

    Superb to see this again and that long blue was just outrageous - clearly didn't always conduct himself too well and maybe self destructed some ... BUT I prefer to remember him for the pleasure he brought me with his brilliance with a snooker cue - my all time favourite player and the Anti Davis ;)

    A rude ignorant man who happened to be good at snooker - died alone and lay for several days - says it all really.

    What a nasty, nasty thing to say, you old troll. Alex died of throat cancer, admittedly probably due to his smoking, but NOT alcoholism, More to the point, he was someone's son, someone's brother and someone's father. Find out the facts before you start slating others.

    RIP Alex and heartfelt thoughts to his family and friends.

    As sad as it is that he has died the previous poster was correct, Alex Higgins was afaik an alcoholic (drunk). Apparently you could frequently find him in local bars from opening times.

    That doesnt diminish his snooker talent in any way but all too often when someone in the spotlight dies, all their bad traits get washed away and they are made out to be something they were not

    or, as in my post, we acknowledge the not so good but prefer to remember them for the good.

    Never said AH wasn't an alcoholic, just that he died from throat cancer brought on by smoking, rather than anything drink related. Plus, regardless of what the man was, there was absolutely no need for that nasty comment from donnac2558!
