Big Rant....Car trouble!!

We've got 2 cars, and I just went out to go to the shops to find my semi automatic corsa wont start, nothing, not a sausage. On the dashboard where it has either N (neutral) A (automatic) or M (manual) it actually says F!!!!! Never had that before....but here is where it just gets better. Our breakdown cover automatically renews each year, but my OH had a new credit card this year so the amount wasn't debited, so no breakdown cover!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I really feel like crying right now, especially as we need both cars for work.....Any suggestions?

The F is telling you that there is a fault in the gearbox, it could be one of many things, from a major component to a simple software update, if it was an engine fault light i would recommend any good local garage, but only a vauxhall dealer will have the latest computer software to program the ecu,so you will have to get it recovered to your local main dealer, ask them to check if your car has had all of its reworks done, gear box updates are available for free if yours has not been done. I hope this helps, good luck, vauxdoc.

The person that asked the question said the AA man didn't know, so it might not have mattered if you had it anyway!

    And this:
If it's not even turning over and a gearbox fault light is flashing, the first suspect has to be the inhibitor switch.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for that.....feeling really :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Any idea if the likes of the RAC or AA will tow me to a garage without any cover?

Do you have any friends with it? I always understood that if you have a friend in your car who has cover, and you breakdown, they'll still help. I think. You might wanna wait for someone else to clarify.

    Hi,

Why don't you re-join the AA/RAC - when you call them up to join tell them that you car has broken down - that is how I joined first time ...

  • Cos my OH is worried they wont come out if it is something that happened before your cover commences?

I think they will - seem to remember a friend of mine getting home this way...

Also think whoever said that a friend with cover would be enough is right - Im with the AA, and Im fairly sure that its ME who is covered, not the car - so as long as Im there....

    good luck

    xx

I know with my policy it is myself who is covered and not the vehicle. But i'm not sure if its only if i'm the one who's driving or not.

just phone the local garage and get them to collect
or phone the AA and they will require you to pay a higher premium to join with an immediate call out

i must admit i would be wary of the semi automatics outside warrenty
    repairs can be very costly
