I really need a new PC but not being technical minded at all I'd appreciate your help!
I've seen this one:
http://www.lxdirect.com/rf/navigation/product.do?Ntx=mode+matchall&Ns=prod_in_stock%7C1%7C%7Cprod_new_in%7C1%7C%7Cprod_min_base_price%7C0%7C%7Cscu_id%7C1&groupId=362670537&Nu=this_product&SNtk=&Np=1&SN=154+4294967130+4294967138&Ntt=362670537&D=362670537&Ntk=group_search&Dx=mode%2Bmatchall&thisprod=359925893&N=154+4294967130+4294967138&Nty=1&Mis_item_id=15&Mis_item_loc_id=1&product=359925893
(sorry about the long link, told you I wasn't techie, someone did tell me how to do short links but it won't work in firefox for some reason)
Anyway, is that a good PC? I don't need a super duper one, so long as it connects to the net and I can type on it then that'll do me!
Anyone got any other recommendations for a quality, PC under £300?

Have a look here, and for not a lot more you can get a better specced machine:
http://www.wizmarkcomputers.co.uk/
In particular this one for £349 (the one with the DVD-RW highlighted)

Sorry I registered your requirement for under £300 afterwards (must read more carefully!), but as you may have noticed there is a Dell for £299 also. I'll sum up what I think are the pros and cons of the Dell against the LX machine:
Pros: TFT monitor rather than old CRT telly style
Reads DVDs
Slightly more powerful processor
Cons: Only 90 day collect and return warranty
Won't write CDs
However I think you should look for a machine with at least 512Mb memory. Hope this helps.

It's ok, I am willing to go at least £50 over budget so long as I get a better PC than this old dinosaur!! Thanks again!Kate

Another cheapy at Comet with a reasonable spec for a basic machine, but Acer reliability questioned in this thread:

If you don't need a monitor and have an operating system install disc, you can this one form Misco for £129.99 + vat:
