Ok for months we have ummed and ahhed over which tv to buy, finally today i joke to dh that i am going to go into out local Panasonic shop (as a friend of ours owns it) and say to him if he will take £500 cash i will buy i there and then. It was origionally £600 then £550.
We go in..we get him down to £480 and i'm chuffed to bits BUT i look at the back of the tv and realise the bracket we have is different to the one on this tv. I then spot a 40" Samsung which was a close contender but obviously bigger but would fit our current bracket in terms of the screw holes.
We are 95% sure we have this bracket in the corner of our lounge which we bought at B&Q but they dont seem to sell anymore:
http://www.avf-nexus.com/en/products/flat-panel-tv-wall-mounts/LCD503
It says suitable for up to 32" but we are now getting a 37"..or maybe the 40!..know it sounds daft but we have checked the weight of the 40" tv which is 15kg yet that bracket say suitable up to 51kg?? how does that work? surely the 37" is even lighter..so why not suitable?
Who would think getting a tv would be so hard! Help please..do we need a new bracket which we will need to look into as they wanted over £120 pfft!

Somebody..anybody? Basically what i'm asking is do you go by the weight of the tv or the size when buying the bracket?
Thanks0 -
Hi,
did you try puting make and model into that site to see what suggestions it comes up with and compare with your exsisting bracket?0 -
You need to be careful when mixing TV brands with bracket brands. For example, Panasonic say that you should use Panasonic authorised brackets (of course they would say that) but also that any damage caused by fitting another bracket will not be covered by the guarantee.
One of the issues is length of the fixing screws from bracket into back of TV. There is a standard for spacing of screw holes in the backplate, but different brackets and TVs take different screw lengths.
In my case I found that the Panasonic handbook specified a screw length which in reality was too long and would have collided with internals of the TV.
My point is simply - take care!0 -

I don't like single line of fixings vertically in a wall mount, I prefer to spread the load, but having said that provided it is fixed securely into a solid wall, or into the wood rather than the plasterboard using the four screws as per the fitting instructions, it should be ok with the 40" at the weight you have said.
I wouldn't use it close to the weight limit with a larger tv, due to possible leverage issues.0 -
Thanks for the reply. Well i went down the shop and asked the guy about brackets..he said it was easier to work it out by weight which made it worse as the Samsung 40" was within the right weight for our bracket although it only says up to 32"..i asked him about the Samsung in a 37 and it worked out more expensive thank
both and no warranty so i opted for the Panasonic and we have ordered a new bracket.
Thanks for your help.0 -
I would not risk hanging a 15" a LCD from that bracket, let alone anything bigger, the wall mount will put a huge strain on the fixings/wall.
Just re read this..are you sure you mean 15" thats a very small tv..our pc monitor is bigger than that and wouldn't think twice of hanging it up if was a tv screen..as i said ours currenly is a 32" and been up for about 2 years no probs. The man said weight too and this is no where near the guide on there so should be fine?0 -
Slightly off topic but try looking at these:
(couldn't post link due to new user - google 'omni mount' or look on Tesco Direct)
I have mounted a 42" LCD and a 42" plasma in the house with these. Got them for £14.50 at Tesco Extra, simple, easy to mount as they come with a template and they hold a fair weight. Considering the price of many brackets they're a very good alternative.0
