What size LCD tv to go for

Hi

I'm unsure what size LCD tv to go for and was hoping to get some advice.

It is for the living room. The sofas are about 7 foot away from the tv stand. I currently have a 28" CRT. I can't decide whether to go for a 37 inch or 40 inch. Any advice welcomed thanks. I will be buying one with HD freeview.

Enter viewing distance for the suggested size, however the difference between 37 and 40 is not worth discussing, picture quality and sound if using the inbuilt speakers are far more important, as is a freesat/sat tuner option if required.

Never mind the size feel the quality.

Just remember that when you look at them in the shop, they strategically place them in open spaces to make them look smaller than they are.

Would suggest you go to John Lewis or an independent (NOT Currys, Comet, Dixons) and ask them to run an SD aerial source to the TVs you are interested in so that you can view them from the distance YOU want to view from. The vast majority of demo TVs are now fed with HD and you can only view them from about 4 feet away.

I did this, and found JL were the only ones who would actually do this - they got my business !

Do remember that Plasma is also an option and the differences between LCD and Plasma has narrowed over the years with each having advantages over the other. Plasmas main advantage is price, the larger you go (which is what you're thinking) with a TV the larger the difference in price becomes between the two. I have 1 plasma and two LCD's and know they each have great strengths
