Hi,
To earn some extra cash I have applied to be an Avon rep. I have the supervisor/team leader person coming over tonight to explain it all.
Do I have any outlays ? Hubby thinks I have to pay out for the brochures?
Is it worth doing ?
Thanks

A few years ago I had a friend that used to do Avon and she said that she was forever paying for catalogues, but I don't know what it is like as I have never done Avon. I used to do a few of the others and didn't earn much because of the lack of catalogues that i got back.Proud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0

Hi as a new rep the area manager should give you your first lot of brochures for free. Subsequent brochures do have to be paid for.
I tried it but the interest in my area was about zilch, if you have people interested and they pay at first visit it can be a good little earner, plus you get to see promotion stuff in the link book that is a lot cheaper than the brochure.
If you end up pounding the streets trying to catch people in to pay it can be pretty thankless.
Its the walking round to drop off the books then going back round to collect them then back round again to drop off the orders.

I did Avon for about 6 months and any money I earned I used to end up spending of Avon products!
You do have to pay for the books and you don't get any money back off them either. You also have to pay a registration fee which comes off your first few orders. You have to buy the samples, the bags, paper bags and the slips you put inside the books too. If you have a big enough network of people who will buy the products then great go ahea, but to be honest the return is pretty rubbish if you don't have the time to really devote yourself to it.

I tried it 25 years ago! You had to pay for everything, Bag, brochures, samples, the lot. I couldn't sell it either, nobody was interested. I ended up buying a load of stuff for myself from the first brochure, thinking 'd be able to drum up some interest, but had no luck at all. The supervisor woman was very rude when I rang a month later to say I was packing it in, and accused me of not trying hard enough!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Oh no, you sound like hubby, he has a big 'told you so' grin on his face now.
I have my evenings/weekends free so I should, have plenty of time but someone already delivers around my area and with winter approaching I dont like the idea of being out on my own walking the streets.
it might be easier to get a saturday job !

My daughter has just started an avon round. She has her books free for the first 2 campaigns (a campaign is three weeks). She has to pay an admin fee of £7.50 which is payable over the first 2 campaigns. She has to have orders totalling £72 to begin receiving commission of 20% and orders of £135 to begin receiving commission of 25%. Can't see her earning much more than £20to £30 over the 3 weeks at first but its more than she's earning at the moment (zilch!). Plus it stops here sitting round the house saying "mum I'm bored". She left school in May and with no interest in college she is finding it really difficult to find work. Only 16 so no experience that's the problem. But how can she gain experience if no-one will give her a chance.
She did go to the job centre last week and they gave her 2 jobs to apply for.
One as a Hotel Receptionist (experience required)
Another as a cleaner for 3 hours a week at £6 an hour (total pay £18 a week less bus fares)

I did it about 3 years ago, I had a round of about 100 houses and was lucky if I made £15 profit from each round! You have to buy everything as everyone said, plus I bought plastic sealable bags so the brochures didn't get wet which was an additional cost and I even gave away free samples to entice people to buy but I maybe had about 5/6 people out of 100 houses that actually bought anything, in the end I just used to go to them houses instead and then after about 6 months gave it up!
One the supervisor has signed you up, you get no support whatsoever from them! worse job I ever did!
I did ann summers for a year and made loads of money from that - on avaerage about £200+ a month, one month I made £700!
I ongoingly debate doing virgin vie but just don't have the time now! Though they have a christmas offer on at the moment which might be worth you looking at! You can also do Virgin Vie as a catalogue only venture if you wanted

I have worked for:
Ann Summers ( worked well til one of our team decided to nick my diary and took all my customers...at one point I was selling over £1500 a week)
Usborne Books (still do this cos the nursery my littlre girl goes to always has orders from people)
And am just starting PartyLite, and have my starter show next Wednesday. I don;'t have any start up/delivery/hostess gift costs to worry about.
I looked into doing Virgin Vie but the start up costs put me off would have cost £125
Looked into Body shop but again the start up costs were £90 but that was 3 yrs ago so it maight have changedProud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0 -
Avon is pretty good, it is one of the cheapest ones to do. Brochures are pennies each, and your do not have to pay for your order in advance. The thing with Avon is, they even let you be a rep for family/friends. So if you find there is no interest in your area, you could just keep doing it for yourself/family. I think the order minimum is £30, so if you can keep it over that your laughing. you get all the stuff at cost price. My wife does it, and has quite a good round, but even I (A MAN!) find a lot of the stuff good.
If you want NO outlaw I think betterware is the only one that is free. But that is a set area, so if there is someone in your area, you can't do it too.
Others with more outlay are Kleeneze and Phoenix-cards. Phoenix cards are great, and at £1 per card quite affordable, and for the quality, can't be beaten. This has a yearly £15 subscription cost and the brochures are quite expensive (25p each), but if you have the time to put to it, especially now til Xmas, it works out quite well. My wife does the cards as well, so if you need any info, I can pass it on, just through me a PM (I think she even has info packs on starting up!).0
