Red Light Camera?

OK, this is probably a stupid question, but does anyone know whether or not the thing on top of the lights in the picture below is a camera to catch people who jump reds?

I saw a guy in a little white van clearly jump two red lights this morning. Both times he got nowhere further than the back of the queue of traffic ahead, but when he jumped the one pictured above he only narrowly missed the pensioner who was on the crossing at the time. I'm not normally a fan of "safety cameras", but it'd be nice to know if that idiot is going to get his comeuppance

I'd always assumed they were just infrared detectors to see if there was a car waiting? Having said that I've no idea what a red light camera does look like!0

No, red light cameras are away from the lights themselves - a grey box (camera) on top of a pole a few metres back from the lights usually. That picture isn't one, I believe it just detects the presence of traffic0

Is there an associated pedestrian crossing? The radar detectors for pedestrians on those look very like this."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

That's not a red light camera. Almost all traffic lights have those (pictures ones) above them.0

I thought maybe they were cameras at 1 point but they are infra red cameras0

No, that is NOT a camera for people jumping red lights.
It is a detector that monitors awaiting traffic, ie a sensor0 -
Yes, that is a microwave detector used later at night when traffic lights move to 'VA'.
This is a red light camera There are other types too, that do speed. You can see the loops at the stop line that make it work.0 -

The link you have posted does not work, it goes to Google maps0
