I read a tip of getting uniced cakes from a cake maker and icing and decorating them yourself, so I was telling my mum about it and said 'shame we don't know anyone that can decorate cakes', OH piped up 'I can' So we're going to have a cake day, I'm going to make a couple and he can ice and decorate them....

I love the cakes with the vows on them

We are very lucky cos we get a cake provided when we marry abroad (but seeing that's just the 2 of us it may be a waistline-bursting experience!!)and MIL2B is a great baker so she is doing us a plain white iced cake with 2 tiers of fruitcake with a sponge top tier for our evening party back at home. Her pal is a florist and is going to put something in our colours together to decorate and I have ribbon so its all costing us nothing.:T
    Thank God SOMETHING is free!:o
Lexxi what are cakes with vows on them? Is there a pic somewhere? Sounds intriguing

I think we are going to get the Chocolate Jewels Wedding Cake from Caffe Concerto. Its £225 for 50 servings which is not very mse but I really love it! I'm going to get white flowers instead of red so it will tie in with the lilac and cream theme from my wedding.

It's the one that Sammy85 mentioned a few posts up, as you look at the cake the bit where the ribbon would go has the vows written on in icing instead.

My Mum has volunteered to make ours. Hecky thump! Best friend's other half's sister is a cake decorator so hoping to get her to decorate it :D

I am making my own! That is next weeks job!!!! A lady that my H2B works with has offered to ice it for the cost of the ingredients! She is looking to build up her portfolio! If that hadn't happened it was going to be me giving it a go under the guidance of H2B's auntie who would have loved to have done it but unfortunately has limited use in her hands following illness!

My nana offered to buy us one but I know what I want and how I want it! I am having 2 stacked tiers with red ribbon around the base and sone red/white roses on the top! Very plain, very simple but very effective! The costs of it will be very low in comparison to a bought one! Was quoted £700 for the cake from a cake shop!

I made cupcakes for ours, was quoted £200 for a 3 tier proper cake but just couldn't bring myself to pay it! Including the ingredients and cake stand I think I spent about £35.

(plus a few tears 2 days before the wedding when I had to bin a load and start again! Worth it in the end though :))
  • We're having two boxes of cupcakes from M&S - that's 90 cupcakes for £70 and I've bought a 7 tier cake stand from ebay for £26 for them to go on. I'm planning to sell the cake stand on ebay after we've used it for our wedding so we can get some money back there.
