Vodaphone refusing to issue micro-sim

Hi
Has anyone had issues with asking Vodafone to provide a micro-sim. Currently on a monthly contract -called up yesterday and was told unless i was buying the iphone from them i could not get the micro-sim.

Is this nonsense - or is it something that the overseas calling staff are asked to say to customers...

I don't suppose they are actually obliged to give anyone a micro-sim if they don't want to.

True.. but as am a current paying customer i'd have thought thats a no brainer. The alternative would be to terminate and restart -really the same thing right :)
Its just the hassle thats the problem!

Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thats also true! But why should i have to go and do it myself when am already paying the company anyhow. Am sure there also converters to go forth from micro to full sim. But the bottom line remains that am paying them my hard earned cash. At least if they were to say go to a Voda shop and they'll cut it down then that would be fine. But to tell me straight out NO seems a bit daft...

When the i4 first arrived Orange stated that they wouldn't be supplying micro sims unless you bought the phone from them. They appear to have amended that slightly, but I'd think a micro would cost them more than a normal sim and if they're not getting anything back. . .

    I suppose they could charge.

A few years back I bought a new phone and found my ancient T-Mobile SIM (Mercury One2One actually) didn't work. Apparently the older SIMs only supported 5V whereas newer phones operated on 3.3V. (Or something like that.)

T-Mobile said as part of renewing a contract with a new phone they would supply free. Else they charged (£15 I think). I agreed to the charge which I thought was OK.

Odd thing was, it never appeared on the bill.

Just got my sim cutter today and it seems to work very well for cutting a regular sim into a micro sim. I ordered it from http://www.cutmysim.com/ and it only took about 4 days to arrive (£20 inc p&p). I first tested it on an old dead sim to check how well it cut, and it's a good clean cut.

Next I tested it on an active payg sim and after cutting it down from regular sim to micro sim it worked fine in my iphone4.

It comes with 2 adaptors for using the cut sims as "normal" sims again, but these adaptors seem a bit flimsy compared to the sturdy adaptor supplied with the iphone4. I am worried the sim could drop out and get stuck inside the phone!

The apple supplied sim adaptor works fine for using the cut sim in my 3gs.

I have seen several VF phone shops with signs advertising micro sims for iPads so they obviously sell them. Suggest you just try going into one of their shops and ask.
