We have 4 computers in the office.all running XP, around 18 month old Dells.Microsoft office is ok but we have an issue- the two on outlook 2003 work well but the 2 on outlook 2002 are dreadful. we want to upgrade all 4 and import the old emails in as they are a useful reference tool. Because it is a bonafide business i am keen to have the correct package as the home/student version is not applicable to us.
I would like to have business contact manager on outlook too so have been looking at the home & small business version- most places want around £185-195 per computer.I am aware if we purchase 2007 then we can upgrade FOC til September BUT 2007 seems £10-20 more expensive than 2010 so i am failing to see the benefit of using the older version. I freely confess to being a user/numpty NOT an expert so ease of use is very important
Thanks in advance

If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation

I would only have got 2007 if it was cheaper.
Warning, most Office products only come with 3 licence's0 -
Using Office 2010 at the moment, imo it's a better product than 2007 which was just a bit confusing.
I get MSDN so no idea about any cost benefits, sorry :-)

I'd have a look around microsoft's business facing site at the volume licensing/small business options... I think they may start from 5 rather than 4 machines but at least have a look how they're setup if you might expand/go that way in future...

I have tried them buts its more expensive than buying individual programs from one of the resellers
I will be buying 4 programs as the maximum of 3 on one program is for the Student & home version which would be illegal to use in the office. I am trying hard to stay within the law here..If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, its just possible you haven't grasped the situation0 -
Does Office 2010 Home and Business contain all the products you need? I wouldn't think about getting 2007, unless you can get a good deal on it...0

Office 2007/2010 will be a nightmare to learn as the 'ribbon' is so differnt. TBH I tried the contact manager in Outlook and was pants. Have you considered running all your business leads off salesforce.com?0

I don't know if it is suitable for your needs, but just so you're aware, there is a free/open source program which has some similarity to Outlook called "Evolution".
Originally it was for Linux however there is now a Windows version:

There are also a number of other free e-mail clients. Worth a try maybe before buying anything new?0 -

It doesn't make it legal because it works! You're only allowed to install one license on one computer at the same time. It only worked because MS seems to delete the activated keys from their database after 90 or 120 days, I think.0 -
I'm using 2010, not a fan of it or 2007, have spent a lot of time finding things that were easy to find in 2003.
Don't waste time if you do have to upgrade go straight to 2010, it is an improvement on 2007. Also if there are a few £s to save by getting 2007 and then upgrading you've lost it in time and therefore money in valuable business time.
If you've not used it check out http://!!!!!!!/dlQ4EZ and also lynda.comHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
