    glee: how so ?

In my parents day, they lived away from home. Ten years ago, students lived away from home. If anything, with the rise of poly's becoming Universities, more students now live at home than ever before because there is invariably a university in their nearest town these days.

With regards to your second comment, do you not think that students nowadays face the same problems as they used to? Illness and emotional problems happened to people back then too. With regards to funding, students of today are better off than they ever were!

Even compared to those who had all of their fees paid and got grants?
Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)

Yeah, grants weren't as much as current student loans are. Am I right? Most students these days can afford to shop in Topshop and waste their loans on rubbish. I don't remember this being the case for my parents.

But were living costs as high then?

Im looking at rents in london for example and its 80 quid to SHARE A ROOM, alone you are looking at 100pw MINIMUM and thats excluding bills.

Im sure rent prices were nowhere near as high then as they are now?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • not everyone wastes their loan on rubbish, £400 a month doesnt really go that far. Once ive paid my mortgage, bills, and groceries its pretty much gone.
Rude people are a fact of life, if you wrestle with a pig you will stink! There's no getting around this concept. If you allow yourself to go someone's level you will only bring yourself down.

Not everybody got grants; they were assessed on parental income, rather less generously than loans and grants are today.

Given inflation, it would be very difficult to compare costs but when my generation left school it was common for rooms in halls of residence to be shared and en suite rooms were unheard of.

Student funding isn't intended to pay for things like mortgages!

Yeah, your probably right. I dunno, maybe I just feeling very woe is me about living costs but then I guess I could have got a place somewhere else to do it cheaper but Its the price you pay for world class academia so Ill have to swallow the costs. *rolls eyes*

Beans on toast is expensive though now bread prices have gone up so
