It's NOT an income. It's to pay for extra costs incurred because of disability. If it's income, why do HMRC & DWP say not to include it when they ask what income you have coming in?
:rotfl:
Sorry, but I have to laugh at your stupidity. DLA is an income, just like child benefit is. Go and do a google on the definition of income. the fact that you do not need to declare DLA or child maintenance or child benefit to the DWP is completely irrelevant.
If you can spend the money paid into your bank account on paying bills, buying the shopping, putting petrol into your car, it is an income.
Every person will use the DLA as part of their monthly budgeting plan.
And what disbility costs more than then £323pw that is on offer paid directly into your bank account?0 -

Now turn that statement around for child benefit and child tax credits. Surely in your eyes these are not incomes either as these are paid due to the extra costs of having children.
I guess in the same sense, housing benefit or council tax benefit is not an income either as of course these are paid to put a roof over your head.
But yet, people that do earn an income, have to pay all these costs themselves out of their income.
Oh, and why can benefits be used for eligibility to a mortgage if they are not classed as an income?0 -
Mitchaa - you are so stupid. DLA is NOT income. DLA is tere to be used for extra disability costs. How hard is that to understand? if it's income, why have I been told by JCP & DWP (never claimed TCs - but know its ignored) to not include it when they ask what money I have coming in? And why is it ignored assessing entitlemnt to things like help with health costs?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

DLA is not counted as income for benefit purposes. It is literally income though, as it is money coming in to the house. There is a difference.0

Can I just suggest that the original poster makes an appointment with the CAB to find out what they might be entitled to? I don't know much about disability/carers allowances etc, but I would guess that if you have had to take so much unpaid leave, that you might be entitled to something?
In terms of help with hospital transport costs, depending on your circumstances, you can claim these anyway. Check with the hospital.
I was recently a full time student, therefore not eligible for working tax credits, but still always have had a NHS exemption card...0 -
DLA and carers allowance is guaranteed and not based on household income. Assumption that the disability is severe enough due to the fact it is stated that they had to give up work to care for the child. I already stated child tax credit would be based on household income, but only 5-10% of males earn high enough to not be entitled to tax credits so 90-95% of males will be entitled to some form of tax credits with a singular income which would make it highly likely that the child tax credit premiums would be awarded.
DLA, carers allowance and the universal child benefit alone is worth a hell of a lot more than £50pw as claimed and the point I was getting at.
The poster was whinging about how the system did not take care of disabled children, I have proven above, that it more than takes care of them with the very substantial payments awarded.
Sorry, where exactly did you say this? Your post does imply that all mothers of disabled children will be 'raking in' £323.40/pw, which I think is a little misleading.
I'm assuming tempertantrum was just refering to Carers Allowance, and maybe she should have included any DLA and disability-related premiums/allowances, as she was talking about benefits received for caring for a disabled child, but by the same token you can't really include CB or the normal CTC awards to refute her claim, as these would be awarded regardless of disability.0 -
I thought that this site was for people to help each other, not judge each other.0

Getting back on topic - OP, I'm almost certain you can't cancel your WTC and continue claiming CTC.0

Surely no one can be so silly:rotfl:
Can you use your DLA payments to buy groceries? Can you use it to pay your electricity bill?
You have not answered my questions regarding child benefits or housing benefits either, nor have you answered how benefit income can be taken into account for mortgage applications. Is it because it doesn't fit into your way of thinking? Child benefits are for children, housing benefits are for housing, council tax benefit is to pay the council tax. DLA is for being disabled.
None is counted as income? What planet are you living on:eek: Do families fund their luxury spends (Tv's, summer holidays, xmas presents etc) out of their income or their benefit entitlements?
The discussion point here is, what is income? (Try a google definition search if you are struggling) Income is any money that you can use to pay for something

I clearly did not state all parents, I stated what was available for disabled children.0
