  • Not all ppi is mis-sold. I suspect many people take it knowing full what it is but now see there is a way for a potential 'windfall'.

Yes, there are those that miss out but two wrongs don't make a right. In some areas (mainly the higher regulated products), the individual involved is actually financially liable for the advice they give or if they are employed they can be sacked. They end up with a permanent record of complaints which, even if not upheld, can prevent them getting jobs in future or increase the cost of their liability cover.

If the individual has mis-sold then fair enough but the problem with the try-it-on complaints is that its not always the faceless corporations that get targeted but also the small financial firms that have done no wrong.

It is now estimated that as many as 1 in 3 complaints is fraudulent or a try-it-on. Some firms are looking at ways to protect themselves from this and even the Govt (Conservatives in opposition) recognised this as a problem. Suggestions were that the complaints process would introduce a charge to the consumer if the complaint was found to false. Of course that hasnt happened but the more people that put in fraudulent claims, the more likely the complaints process will get changed in future. Also, the fraudulent complaints slow down the processing of from complaints of people who have genuine issues that need resolving.

Hi can someone help me please? i sent a letter to BOS creditcard as my hubby had PPI on it. They replied saying that my husband had chose to purchase the PPI when he applied for the credit card via post, since they didn't advise him to purchase and without anyone's advice he applied for it, therefore he can't claim against to it..He is very upset over this. Is there anything else we could do???
Dont know if this will help but on two loans we had i didnt go for misselling of the product, i actually complained about the mis informing, or rather not information for the last 4 years of having ppi`s without a loan`s, yes i know we was to blame as well as company as we were niave about the whole ppi and how it worked. but they took some blame as well as not informing us that when loan was paid off that we still have insurance with them. so basically got a refund back to when the laon was settled, two companies did this for us so i must of had quite a good case and one of them was ge money which are quite hard to deal with sometimes. I know yours is a credit card, but if they didnt send you any details of policy how would you have known that you could have cancelled it, this is what i would argue with them, try and be reasonable with them. Its worth a try, i did and won x hope this helps.
