I think it would be a lovely gesture, they sound very helpful.

    Shame more aren't so caring.

I would want to put senna pods in my neighbours' cake :D

  • I agree with Snowyowls, I can't think of an inappropriate time for cake!

If you've not started yet, try muffins. They're really easy, only don't beat the mix too much or they won't rise.

Plenty of recipes on here; I use one from Delia.

I'd be really pleased to think that someone had taken the time to bake me a cake!

Its a very nice gesture - alot more thoughtful than throwing money at them.

I'd be dead chuffed to receive a cake as a thank you - how thoughtful - it shows you've appreciated what they have done, and baked a cake just for them. A wonderful gesture....

Perhaps we should start the 'Bake a cake for your neighbour thread' and see what happens???

I would also love it if a neighbour baked me a cake. As said before, even if I didn't like cake or couldn't eat it I would appreciate the gesture.

I once baked fairy cakes and tomato soup (which was very hard to give away because my family love it!).which I gave to my neighbours as a thank you. They just gave back the empty tins a few days later and barely said thanks! So I didn't bother again. I didn't expect them to be gushing about it but they acted like they didn't really appreciate it at all! (I know its not my cooking by the way!:D)
  • Baking a cake sounds like a great idea and i would think your neighbours will be well pleased.

I think that's a lovely idea, I hope I end up with neighbours like you when the house next door gets sold.

  • definitely a good idea.......I know that I would appreciated the thought and effort that would go into a homemade cake (my waistline might not however ;) )

    Go for it :)
  • This is a gorgeous and easy cake to do and they will love it! You need a food processor though unless you want to chop up the orange by hand. Also it might need a trip to the shops - it costs £3.34 exactly to make but that doesn't include the cost of the left over ingredients. (Tesco's prices)
    Chocolate orange cake
    1 large orange
    6 eggs
    1 heaped tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp bicarb soda
    200g ground almonds
    250g caster sugar
    50g cocoa

1 boil the orange for about 2 hours or until soft.
2 when the orange is cold put it and everything else in a food processor ( if you have one). mix it all together then put in a tin and bake in the oven for and hour on 180c or gas mark 4.

Trust me it's delicious and fool proof!
