I think it is horrible to see people doing their makeup in public, pulling faces as they rub in foundation and brushing powder all over their face. Watching people put mascara on in moving vehicles gives me the heave as I pray they don't poke themselves in the eye! But much worse than this is people brushing their hair in public with dandruff and stuff flying in all directions (insert vomit smiley!)
I guess we are all different but personally I want to be wearing my makeup before I leave the house rather than be spotted without it. I prefer to put my makeup on in private and don't see it as a public act but each to their own.

I agree. There's a woman who gets the same train as me who applies her full face every morning on the train. The final straw was when I was sitting opposite her (busy train, few seats to choose from) and she got out her tweezers and mirror and started plucking her eyebrows. After that, I'd rather stand somewhere else than watch her taking eye liner / mascara / tweezers near her eyes while on a moving train.0 -

I dont see a woman doing her make-up on the train as offensive. (OK so plucking is a bit much) but I'd rather a woman do her make-up than a smelly armpit, bad breath or loud phone conversation.
it doesn't offend me... I just think that the person doing it looks tacky. We were merely just pointing out that many people find it slovenly for women to do them selves up on the train and that OP should bear this in mind. If she is ok with it then she should go right ahead and do it.
As as for the other things that have been mentioned as undesirable... why does it have to be an either/or?Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
I am quite tempted by the brazillian blow dry I have to admit, but have seen very mixed reviews and its quite a lot of money :S I just bought some of the Keratase Nectar Thermique that was recommended on here, so will hopefully make my hair more managable and I can use dry shampoo between straightening as suggested.
I think i could eat my breakfast on the train but not so sure about putting my make up on, I'd feel a bit embarrased I think.
In reply to some of the posts I dont think wanting to get ready quickly in the morning is anything to do with being lazy/in a rush/ disorganised or needing more sleep. its more that previously I was used to a 10 minute commute and am now goin to be adding 2 maybe even 3 extra hours to my working day, which is a bit rubbish. As a result I just wanted to minimise this time as far as possible. I'm sure that as a result I will learn to be much more organised!0 -
I'm not sure if this is an option for you. While working in Dubai I had to be at work by 7am. I learnt how to do a french braid in my hair myself. Would wash my hair at night, and then plait it while still damp the night before. Morniing I could just get up and go and it stayed neat all day - evening if I went out I would loosen it and have a riot of waves! I believe there are how to videos you can google for.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

I think it's fine to refresh your lipstick on the train/in public. However, I wouldn't put all my make up on in public transport and don't like seeing women doing this either. I just think it's a private thing and fun as well to do it in peace at your home with all your utensils around you etc. Day make up can be done in 5 minutes for a full face so there's no need to do it in public really. Same as hairbrushing, plucking (!) etc.
Is it possible for you to tie your hair up for work or as others have suggested just plait it at night and finish the styling off in the morning. It may be a good idea to lay off the straightening for a while anyway. I used to straighten a lot but haven't really touched a straightener for the last month and my hair looks very healthy now!
I agree with laying all your clothes and accessories out in the evening, prepare your lunch in the evenings and if you eat your breakfast at work you can even doze of on the train if you get a seat!0 -
If you don't want to eat breakfast on the way to work do what I do and set things out the night before. I've got a dog to walk before work and it's surprising sometimes how time flies when I'm doing this so the night before I set out a mug with teabag already in it, put the cereal and bowl on the worktop and spoons ready next to them. It sounds silly, but has helped me to save a teeny bit of time in the mornings as I'm not faffing around wondering what to have.
I agree with the other comment about making lunch the night before as well.
Also, on bin/recycling collection days etc make sure thats put out the night before so you aren't rushing to work and trying to do that as well.
In regard to your hair, straightening the night before will get most of it flat and then it will only take 5 minutes to touch it up if need be. Batiste dry shampoo is very good and only takes a few seconds to use if you didn't get a chance to wash your hair.2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0 -

that does really help as does leaving out clothes the night before (including underwear etc) and means you get up and out feeling calm rather than hectic.0 -
do you have to look smart for work, or is it just your standards that dictate your hair can't leave the house without being straightened? Put your hair up in a bun overnight and it should be passable to go to work the next day (or wear your hair in a bun at work)
I have no need to wear make up to work, give my hair a dry upside down then a quick brush, put on the same outfit every day ( a clean one of course) so I don't take too long to get ready at all.
I would not eat breakfast on the train, or put on a full face of makeup, but I would go to bed a bit earlier and use the time on the train to catch up on emails or read a book etc.
