I'm sorry but doing your make up on the train is really tacky!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    I agree!

Even worse on the platform. I'd think someone was odd if I saw them doing that.

What happens if you can't get a seat on the train, either? That happens quite a bit on my line.

I agree with the other posters about not doing makeup on trains - skanky and tacky!

The hair solution for you would be a keratin treatment. I have nightmare hair but the keratin treatment works great. the keratin is slowly released from your hair but if you use the right shampoos and conditioners it can last for longer. They usually last 3 months and like one of the other posters said, cost around £200.

I wouldn't care if random people who I don't know didn't like me doing my make up on the train...

if it works for you go for it :T

Straighten your hair the night before so it only needs a quick once over in the morning. You could also buy some travel straighteners and do it on the train.

You could also do your make up in the toilets at work when you get there rather than on the train.

why is doing your make up on the train 'skanky' and 'tacky'? I do my make-up at my desk at work and people seem to think it's eccentric but not 'skanky'. I'd never considered anyone would think that - I thought people would just assume I am disorganised (shruggy emoticon)

Putting makeup on is a lot less skanky than coughing, sneezing, breaking wind, listening to music on your iphone loudly, having a ringtone that says variations on 'oy f**kface answer the phone' etc etc but people do all of those all the time :)

Agree all is skanky, so is eating breakfast. I don't want to sit next to someone feeding their face at 7am, especially if it's meat pie, yuck.

    Whatever happened to discipline?
I commuted to the West End for ten years to a large cosmetic house.
Always left home with perfect hair and make up. Made sure to catch two trains earlier than needed so as not to be late. Met with friends from other places to have coffee and breakfast in London.

Never any need to eat, make up or style my hair on a train.

I watched a programme recently where a young designer with Ralph Lauren felt that he had to get out of London. He cited people eating burgers on the tube. Have to agree, not only that but putting the greasy, smelly wrappings on the shelf, top of the seat. Eeugh!!

Well I often apply my lippie on the bus and I don't feel it offends anyone or is tacky. As has been said already, some people cause more offence on buses than putting on make up, ie swearing, shouting, having phones playing music with no headphones (I have an Ipod but always use headphones) and more to the point people who don't wash and smell the bus out.

I would far rather see someone putting on their make up.

Brazilian blowdry will cut down the need to keep straightening your hair every day

however, i agree with above - batiste spray to get an extra day without washing - or washing the night before, so you only need to straighten hair in the morning, not do the whole routine

reduce make-up routine, to just one colour eyeshadow, flick of mascara and lipgloss. ditch foundation, and just use a powder finish

get clothes out ready the night before, so you dont have do last minute ironing, or hunting for matching socks/unladdered tights
