burning wood and coal together ?

I have read a few reports about it not being a good idea to burn wood and coal together, as coal is best burnt with air from underneath and wood the opposite. So, you have to compromise and so neither the wood or coal burns efficiently and of course that can lead to chimney problems.
However, today I was looking on a well know log website and they recommend burning logs with smokeless fuel as this 'drives off any moisture' in the wood and help it burn more efficiently.
What are people's thoughts on this ..... ??

I've been burning logs and smokeless together on my multifuel stove for years (and so have dozens I know) and have never had any chimney problems. Mine is unlined though as was the one in my previous place where I did this for over 15 years.0

I do it too - and with my sweep's blessing (FWIW, he's also a HETAS registered installer).
I think the sceret is to get a good strong smokeless fire going first, then add the (dry) wood. Smouldering wouldn't be advisable.0 -
