Just sold first item, need help pls!

Hi all,

Just this second sold a mobile phone for £92 my very first sale. All seems OK, right?

Except, I explicitly stated that it was a UK sale and the winning bidder is from the USA! I dont want to post to the USA and worst of all hes a newbie with ZERO feedback - that hes kept private?!?

What do I do? :(

He hasnt paid yet, but can I just offer the item as a second chance offer to the next bidder? If so, how will that reflect on my feedback etc?

I just dont know what to do and would really appreciated some advice, thanks

  • I would write to him advising that you will only ship to the UK, as specified in your auction. Due to this, you are unable to continue with the transaction. I would then offer the item to the second highest bidder. If the first buyer negs you, just comment that the item was listed as UK only shipping, but buyer is in US.

Obviously a con! I just dont want it to affect my feedback. The chances are this person will neg me when I dont complete the transaction, is there anyway to protect myself or cancel it through ebay?

    Thanks

    Con Con Con!

Dont do it. Reply to them and tell them no!

This is obviously a con - mobile phones are the normal target on ebay for these people. Even if you state UK only they still try bidding!

Whatever you do dont go through with it as you will lose the money - and the phone.

If and when you relist it block any non-UK bidders and state that any buyers must have at least feedback of 10 or something like that - and a landline contact number

Ahh the wonderful nigerian scam. Just file non paying bidder on the grounds that the buyer violated your shipping terms. Report him to ebay He will be NARU in days.
Most of the time these people dont leave you feedback anyway, but if he was to neg you then you would have grounds for removal. If you are at all concerned go to ebay.com and in the top right hand corner of the main page there is a live help feature where you can talk to an ebay representative. They will help you

  • That exact same thing happened to me, dont worry about negative feedback, report the bidder to ebay and they will take the relevant information before you can blink an eyelid. I would offer the second chance offer or relist the item.

ooh and just to add, in my ebay in your preferences section you can tick a box that allows you to block bidders from outside the UK. It wont completely stop the nigerians because they do register as being in the UK as well, but it will minimise them.
    Good luck!
  • Hi,

Wow! Thanks for the super quick replys.

Where do I report him? I cant find it on ebay help!?!? Sorry.

Will I be able to get this sorted today and make the second chance offer?

    Thanks again everyone!

Ask him to pay by Western Union. ;-) You can walk into most holiday places and get cash over the counter.

Then send it to them. There's no recourse on you with Western Union cash counter cheques. If they're fake they won't give you the money. If they're genuine, you've got your cash. Then send a loaf of bread to the address in Nigeria.

    ;)

From what i recall though technically if a WU order is found to be fake you can be persued for cashing it. There was a lady in the USA who dealt in horses that repeatedly had this problem. She would ask them for the cheque and just hand it over to the police when it arrived. Better to just chalk it up to experience and move on.
