Recorded Delivery - what's the Point? (Advice Needed)
Comments

Exactly, which is why i know he hasn't signed for it.
As for the posties who are doing this getting the sack........i think R.Mail would be sacking a lot of Postmen!
One even moved my bin and placed a package behind it the other day!
I had a parcel, (item of clothing), left in my recently emptied wheelie bin! It was sent recorded delivery as the card which I take to the delivery offfice was pushed through the door. Good job I wasn't away - poo-eee!! It wasn't delivered by my regular postie. I wouldn't have minded so much, but the delivery office is less than a 5 minute drive away from my house - no bother to pick it up! Also have had the moved bin senario - too bad if it starts to rain........

If your this paranoid I would consider if selling on ebay is right for you, to burst your bubble 99% of buyers are perfectly honest. Myself Like Soolin I have had 2 losses in the past year an average of 100 items a month. All sent non recorded.
If your getting more than that you need to check your own methods Is your packaging sufficient, is their a legible return address. If your losses are high speak to the royal mail and complain there may be investigations they can do.0 -
Well, i'll see if i can get through to someone at Royal mail (on the number at the top of the letter).
Will update you guys with what they say tomorrow.0 -

Usually special is fine fo rme but i sold a laptop a year or so ago and it never tracked to delivery even though buyer said he had received it and was happy.
I contacted RM who were very unhelpful, they refused to change the tracking online even though I explained I needed it 'just in case'. They told me that I was able to recover my £20 delivery charge but that was all they were prepared to do.
I made a formal complaint to PostWatch or whatever they are called, they took all the details, all the letter and emails and thewn decided that RM were correct. They told me basically to be grateful that I was able to get my delivery cost back!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. UPDATE
Well, i've just come off the phone with R.Mail customers services and it appears the "dodgy Ebay buyer" DID sign for the package!
The agent told me exactly who they had down as signing for it........and yep, it's the very same man who claimed he never received the package.
Customer services are sending me a copy of his signature (for free) and i'll receive that in a few days time.
But what are my rights now,....... Ebay-wise?
I've refunded the buyer already, and he'll be getting a few choice words said to him in an email.
But is there actually a way of getting that money back from him?0 -
Ebay/Paypal will probably not be interested, their T&C are clear, it MUST show online. Ridiculous but true.
Are RM in a position to update the tracking (I don't know how these things work)?
I wouldn't jump in just yet with the buyer. Firstly, block him from your listings. Secondly get in touch with Ebay/Paypal and see if they will move at all on their decision.
If all else fails you could email the buyer a copy of his signature and let him know that you are prepared to give the evidence to the Police.0 -
Little chance if the website still doesn't show it as accepted. If it does, ebay may refund you.
The problem you had is of your own making. You "knew" the buyer hadn't signed for it? You assumed this because you have little knowledge of the postal system. The buyer, having signed for the package, could then track it on the web. He would know the site had not been updated, so felt free to claim non receipt. He may also know these are frequently not updated.
Treat it as a cheap lesson0 -

Yes, that's very good advice.
Maybe once he knows i've got an actual copy of his signature -things could progress from there.0
