Did you speak to someone to make a payment or was it an automated line?

Either way if all you authorised to be taken from your account is a fiver then that's all they should have taken imo.

Just to clarify, is it your bank you have spoken to regarding this? Was it a Direct Debit or Standing Order?

Had you received notifiication via email or post from the collections department that this money was due to come out of the bank?

Is £312 the amount you owe altogether?

And just when things were going OK, aww I feel for you MOCAF

I know for £5, but that doesn't explain the amount taken. You don't make a card payment for £5 and £300+ comes out of the account.

I wonder if the OP has missed correspondence from the collections department.
  • Hi Washer, no it was £5. Its £312 that I owe them but I have been phoning up every month to make the £5 card payment.
The girl repeated £5 several times and gave me pay ref number.

Its only then when I went onto my online banking they have taken the full amount. I have called my bank and they cant do anything as it was a debit card payment. I am waiting for the company to call me back.

    I feel sick

So when you phoned them back did you check the details they have for the ref no they gave you?

Does that ref no show a payment of £5? I just wondered if it's a glitch.

Please don't pay them this way again, I know that's a bit late to say but send them postal orders in future.

I hope you can get it sorted.

I agree with Kittie, no-one should pay a debt collections by this method, a little late now, what they have done is totally underhand.

Lets help you with your budgeting? How much do you have left until next pay day? How much is left in the account? Do you have an overdraft?

Edit: Pleased to read that they are going to refund you. Postal Orders or a cheque in future. Missed heard you, not likely, she was trying it on...cheeky devil.

Contact the card provider straightaway and explain. As them to reverse it. If it is Visa this can be done under a chargeback fairly easily.

Then make a complaint to the DCA.

If the debt relates to consumer credit you can also take them to the Financial Ombudsman Service if push comes to shove.
