My mom lives in Israel in the countryside and they get jackals on their door step at certain seasons (hunger matings etc') these are noisy busters and they tend to eliminate the local cats.

The best solution everyone found is to have a big dog especially if you can get an Akbash dog as they will chase them off for you.

    Simples init:D

I don't see the need for the exasperated comment either myself. Foxes are a major problem round here but they can live in the garden and scream all night and I have not suggested exterminating them.

I am only asking how to deter them from fighting on my doorstep - not on the path but actually on the step itself barring the way in, when I come in late. I don't have a dog as this is an urban area and it would not be fair to the dog, in my view, to be kept on a lead whenever we go out. As for how I am to obtain a bucket of water to throw on them or a metal tray to bang when I arrive home late and they are barring the way to the front door....would you like to explain?
