Foxes on my doorstep - how to deter

My son, who is home from overseas for a short stay, came in late last night and reported he could not get to our front door to let himself in, because the way was barred by three foxes having a fight on the step in our front porch.

They showed no sign of moving when he showed up. He said he had to chase them away before he could let himself in - and then they just moved a few yards to the road nearby de where they continued to have a vicious noisy fight.

He is a big burly chap and chased them away. I am quite slight myself and would have been very unnerved by this. Any suggestions on deterring them? Are there smells they don't like for example?

  • Yes, they don't like the smell of cold bacon-stick a few rashers of that on your path.

Have a look for Scoot Repellent which you can use around your property or if it is a concentrated area you are looking to protect, the jet-spray repeller.

    Oh for heavens sake!

Just chase them off yourself making as much noise as possible - e.g. clap your hands or bang a metal tray or something.
The only likely danger is if you corner them and they have no escape route.
If there are two or more and they ignore you chuck a bucket of water at and over them.

I haven't tried it myself but you need a man to have a wee around your door and apparently that keeps them away. Me I just let the dog out to chase them away, and today I have called the council to complain about the foxes around our area, I haven't slept for weeks because of the noise they make.

'Oh for heavens sake' is an expression of exasperation not sarcasm. Exasperation that one small incident has been blown out of all proportion.
