Hi
Have searched for a thread to attach onto but cannot find one suitable!
My daughter is leaving her primary school on Friday to go to High School!
Anyway, focus has been on buying her teacher a nice present, which we have done.
It's a small school with about 60 children and 12 staff (which includes teachers, helpers, cook etc) and we'd decided that it would be a nice thing to buy all the staff a little something too as they all have had involvement, so we have done that.. big box of thorntons between them and a tiny personalised charm that only cost a couple of pounds...
However, my daughter has come home this evening with a gift from one of her classmates...... I cannot believe I hadn't thought of buying the children a little something from her!!
I have to go out tomorrow (well later today!) and get something - 7 boys and 4 girls... has anyone got any ideas what I can get for eleven 11 year olds??
help!!!
Thanks in advance!

Seriously? Good god. Put together a form of party bag and get your daughter to write cards to each child and staff member.0

Hi,
I ditto what Fang said, was going to suggest that but was beaten to it. I wouldn't go too over the top though.
If that fails why not just buy Alton Towers and they can all go there

thanks both!
If only I had put the lottery on then I could have taken them to alton towers... not!!
I am a bit stumped tho... her friend bought her some stationery items... little calculator, rubbers, pencils and then something for her to wear in her hair and some earrings!! I don't want to go over the top and not wanting to compete.. just want to get a little something for her to give to her friends.. amongst the 9 in her year, they are all going to 4 different schools (my daughter being the only one going to her high school).0 -
Don't do anything!
Seriously, just because one person has given her a gift doesn't mean that a) they are all going to or b) you have to do it just because someone else has. Fair enough if she has a best friend that she would like to give a gift to, but not the whole class.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. You could try Claire's accessories, they have lots of inexpensive little gifts, hair clips, earrings, notepads, keyrings. Tesco do lots of little gifts like stationary and sweets. Paperchase is great for little trinkets and fun stationary if you have one near you. Or maybe a first little school diary for them.
Gosh, where's Woolworths when you need them? Thats where we used to fill goody bags!

Thanks, but I think as it's such a small class, they are all more or less best friends! I may just chicken out and bide my time and do an invite saying we'll all have them over the holidays for an afternoon! :eek:0 -
I think you are taking this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too far..
You don't have to buy anyone presents it really annoys me.. these people are doing a job they are PAID to do.. therefore they are given a present at the end of every month!! they are not doing you a favour, they are doing their job! A card saying thanks is more than sufficient (though I wouldn't kill a tree, I'd say 'thank you!')..
and !!!!!!? Buying the children gifts as well.. that is taking it way to the extreme!.. lunacy gone mad!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
This is all a bit OTT! It's bad enough you bought ALL the staff presents but now all the children as well?
If you really must reciprocate the gift then just buy a small thing for the child who gave your child a present. Why would you buy something for the rest of the class? Do you want their parents running around feeling like they have to get something for your little one?
More money than sense!0 -
I dont see a problem with buying teachers a little gift to say thankyou. Yes they get paid to do a job but doesnt everyone like to know they're appreciated for doing the job well? Many small shops will have tip boxes etc at christmas and no-one complains about it, it's just a way for people to bebale to say ty for doing a great job and although you may not always realise it, it is actually appreciated.I think you are taking this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too far..

Of course if there was a teacher who was rubbish then no I wouldnt get them a gift but this year my sons teacher will be getting a little pressy. He joined his school last sept and since then has come on in leaps and bounds which I put largely down to the teacher and the assistants, so whats wrong with saying ty with a little gift?
As for buying something for all the children I agree it's a lot to pay even when buying something small, however as theres only 12 and not a class of 30 odd I would consider it as they are leaving to go to a new school. I wouldnt probably do this if they were staying at school in the new school year though.
Maybe the op could get a nice notepad each which your daughter could write a note in for each person. A lot of children do things like this when leaving for new schools (usually on inappropriate stuff like school shirts though lol) so pre-empt it with a notebook and pen or something.0 -

Yes teachers and school staff do get paid but many do a lot more than their standard job and people should have the choice as to if and how they say thanks - you choose not to but others dont. Children spend a lot of time at school and the staff are influences in their daily life, if the school is anything like ours than a present is more than deserved as thanks.
Always amazes me that people tip hairdresses, restaurants, taxis etc yet so many people begrudge teaches being given anything.
OP, Our school is small but nobody has bought classmates so I would see it as a one off. I wouldn't buy anything for the other child but I would maybe arrange a day out instead. That way its still a treat but not a gift for a gift iykwim.0
