You need to ask for an assessment by an Occupational Therapist. S/he will see you at home, work out what you need and provide most of them for you. Going on my parents' experience, s/he will see things that will make your life easier that you probably wouldn't think of yourself. Well worth doing.

The Rheumatology Consultant my husband sees has referred him for assessment.

Might be worth phoning the consultant's secretary and asking her how it is done.

Hi hobo123. I have suspected RA so I know the pain you must be in.
As people have mentioned before an ocupational therapist would be the best person to see.
Hope you get the help that you need.

Thanks for your advice physio referred me to social services about 7 months ago but they called and said they had a very long waiting list could I tell them what I needed the things I got at the time were a kettle tipper and grab rails because I really didnt know what aids were available and this was what was offered. I will speak to my doctor see about getting referred directly to occupational therapist.

You don't need a GP referral to go to an occupational therapist, you can refer yourself. Just ring your local hospital and get put through to the OT dept.

I have recently been given a perching stool and a gadget to help me put my socks on, my OT is full of ideas to make my everyday life easier.

my OT gave me a bedrail to help me get up out of bed, blinking cold bars, but it does help, and its long term loan for the time that i feel i need it.

OT can go around your house and see if there is anything else that might be of assistance for you.

Although mine is a bit dipsey, slowly she gets things get done.

Can you put something like foam over the bars?
