    Yup.....but then I'm a farmer!

Love the Highland, one of the best shows ever.

    Likewise Royal Welsh.

Such a shame the Royal show went down the pan but it was deservedly so. LAMMA and Cereals are much better events.

For a great experience try out your local Young Farmers Rally. Most counties have them and they are fab. Usually on a lot smaller scale than the big shows but a great atmosphere.

I love shows; big like the Yorkshire or tiddly like Halton Gill or Oldshoremore.

It was desparate when foot and mouth and blue tongue wrecked the shows, as I love the livestock.

At the Yorkshire I hit the cattles line ASAP and then check out the pig judging as the commentator is a scream. Judge on knees checking out a young boar's wedding tackle? Or a young beast deciding to demonstrate the fact that this breed really can move, very weighty exhibitor in pursuit? He always has a comment to leave you in stitches.

But there is great pleasure to be had in the simple sight of the kids at a local show being towed at speed round and round the field on a hay sledge clinging on for dear life. Health and safety anyone?

One show I know has an egg throwing competition; each pair of contestants has to successfully throw an egg between them, whilst moving further and further apart. The eggs are raw, so it gets messy towards the end. They also do splat the rat, although he is mock and hay bale tossing.

But heaven is scratching the the head of a Vayvol cow, patting a Longhorn bull or watching the antics of a litter of Middle White piglets.

We go to a local one every year. This year we are going to check out the various fruit and veg sections in the competitions. We got our first allotment this year and fancy entering a few tomatoes and stuff next year. They also have a lovely handicraft section but I fear I'm not up to their standard. My 5 year old loves the show, the animals, rides, ice cream and we usually bump into a few folks we know. Not only that the show is up on the tops so the views are fab. A great day out, even though it is often VERY wet and muddy :)

They did that with the bees at The Vale show in August last year. Look very interesting. It was next to the guy with the laser clay shoot which was fascinating to watch...all the fun without the noise.
Haven't done many shows since we stopped competing but in the past, Abergavenny, RWAS, 3 Counties, Monmouth Swansea, and loads of the local ones. Best now in South Wales is without doubt Pembroke County - 3 days in Haverfordwest.

I love agricultural shows from the big Yorkshire Show to the teeny Hardon moss Sheepdog trials.

I especially love taking my mum as she always enters the skeet shooting competitions if there, last time the old boy farmer network was in full swing, and as she rocked up, they tutted, and laughed about townies cant shoot.
She won the competition with ease, much to the mens disgust, not surprising really daughter of a gamekeeper and a former army crackshot.

The Vale Show? Didn't know about that one and the Vale is just down the road! Is there one this year?

Don't you just love it when that sort of thing happens? :)

I've never heard of skeet shooting. Shall have to look it up.
