Agricultural Shows, anyone go to them?

I've just been watching the Royal Welsh Show on BBC Wales and was wondering if any old stylers here go to any of the shows.
When I lived in London, I used to go to the Surrey County Show in Guildford and loved it. Since living here in Wales, I've been to two county shows and have been a tad disappointed. I think the Royal Welsh is probably like the Surrey one, ie, big. Whereas the county shows are small and seem to be more equestrian than agricultural.
But, I do enjoy looking at vintage tractors and the chickens in the poultry show.

OOOoooh, I love a good show!!! We always used to go to the Balmoral Show when I was a kid - I loved all the pet and animal classes! I think the big ones are the best - you get loads of local suppliers with free food samples turning up, and we always get a milkshake from the milk marketing people.
Some of the smaller shows are good as well - round here they tend to be the WI and more local-centric groups. The horsey stuff around here tends to keep to its own events.0 -
We went to the Great Yorkshire Show last week, which was fabulous :T We've been several times, and also the Lincolnshire show. Sadly, our town's show finished a few years ago due to lack of interest
(I was a Steward there). We sometimes go to more local shows, if they don;t clash with other commitments. :rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I go to the Cheshire show every year and love it. In fairness though I first started going for the equestrian side but when I started going with OH we would wander around. I love going in the WI tents to see their displays and the Food Halls for all the free samples! Great day out and plenty of horses to keep me happy! xxPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000
There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.0 -
Hmm...there wasn't a WI stall at the Bridgend show, but there was one at the Margam Park show (which only seemed to be on for one year).0

Just spotted this thread so thought i would add a date for the diaries 7th August is Canwell show. I went for the first time last year as my son was on First Aid duty with St Johns Cadet's and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Expected to find prices to be expensive for produce but in actual fact a lot of it was cheaper than i would have found in the shops. A link here for anyone interested,

Back growing up we always went to the East of England show, after moving here I always went to the Royal Show, but sadly it is no more
I would like to go to others, I'm off to investigate if there's anything else local! Thanks for the idea! 0 -
Ooo, yes. They're a fabulous day out. A bit expensive, but still good VFM, if you make a day of it. I love "grazing" my way around the food halls. Then maybe a wild boar or ostrich burger and a pint of real ale for lunch.
What with one thing and another, I missed the Royal Bath & West this year, but there is still the Malvern Autumn Show at the Three Counties Showground (with the Malvern Hills in the distance) in late September. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

The Bridgend show this year had a tent with a beehive in. We got suited up and were shown the inside of the hive. It was very interesting and as we've been toying with the idea of bee keeping, we picked up a leaflet about courses that the local bee keeping association are running. They've got a course starting in October that hubby and I are going to sign up for. If we hadn't gone to the show, we wouldn't have known about it.0

I really wanted to go to the Cheshire showthis year but unfortunately it was on mid week and not the weekend. I think they may get a lot more support and people visiting if they could hold it on a weekend.0

We went to the Highland show and thoroughly enjoyed it.
