Sky HD: More money to get the same service

If you have Sky HD watch out for an email that will shortly be dropping into your inbox.
Presently the £10 sub covers a range of HD channels, come October you will only get the ones that are aligned with your non premium subscription.
Read and enjoy.

Important changes to your HD service
We also wanted to let you know that on or around the 5th October 2010, we are changing the way we offer our HD channels by aligning them to your Sky TV subscription. For example, to enjoy great HD dramas on Sky1 HD, you would need to have the Variety Pack which includes Sky1; and you'll need the Knowledge Pack to watch those beautiful HD documentaries on National Geographic HD and Discovery HD. Whilst you are within your minimum contract term, you can keep the additional HD channels which you currently have access to if you contact us.

We hope that everything is clear and that you carry on enjoying all the great programmes and services you get with Sky. If you have any queries, please contact us on 08442 41 41 41.

Kind regards,

The Sky Team

I guess this means that those who are within the first 12 months can still enojy all the HD channels!!
  • I used to have Sky + but signed up to HD a couple of months ago and had to take out a new 12 month contract.
It seems bizarre that I have to contact Sky to keep a service that was part of this recent contract.
Are they not reneging on their part of the contract? Can they put the onus on the customer like this?
My experience of contacting Sky, particularly by phone, has been less than satisfactory.
Has anyone tried to call them to ensure that they keep the additional HD channels and if so was it problem free?

It should be the opposite they should ask the customer
  • It would seem that they are relying on people not bothering, or forgetting to contact them.
I'm quite annoyed about this - they have got people sign up and then changed the deal that we signed up to.
So can I cancel the contract they have not stuck to? (Probably not)
My other concern is that if I phone them and ask to keep my current deal, they will still not do what they say.
In the past I have agreed a discount 'deal' with one of their operators only to find that they have then denied this and charged me the full amount.
Should I write to Sky to tell them I want to keep my current deal and ask them to confirm this in writing?

don't know if this will work, but i've just sent this via their 'contact us' page -
"with regards to your recent email advising of changes to the HD pack. i refer to this information, "Whilst you are within your minimum contract term, you can keep the additional HD channels which you currently have access to if you contact us." please accept this email as my request to keep the additional channels for the remainder of the minimum contract term on my account. please acknowledge this request. thank you"
