how do you prove a wall is not yours

They did post a note through the letterbox giving me 24 hrs but I wasn't there at the time and never received it so they took action. I wasn't informed at any time that it was now my wall when the shelter was taken down and that I was responsible and seeing as bus shelters are owned by councils and they swapped the shelter but left the wall freestanding I'm going for the fact that it's theirs. Think I'll have to see this through to the end and see who wins.
Thanks all for the advice0 -
Have you actually confirmed who owned or owns the bus shelter, as councils do not automatically own them, or may not be responsible for them
A council is obligated to ensure that dangerous walls and suchlike, which could impede or injury people using the highway are made safe. If the owner does not respond within a time dependant on the seriousness of the danger, then they can do the work and recover costs.
As I said, your problem is convincing the council or a court that you don't own a wall which was on your property0
